Girsan Regard Inox- Beretta 92 clone

Some of you have seen my other comments on the Girsan Regard on how I liked it, but every once in a while it seemed like it had an alter ego for accuracy. I thought it was me, but at least one box of my ammunition seemed to cause me some grief. Everything through it since has seemed to be fine. So here is the latest...

After not firing it for about 3 weeks I used it for an IPSC match (Prod) on the weekend. It performed flawlessly except note to self, be careful to not engage the decocker on an unloaded start when racking the slide! I pulled the trigger on one start with a dead trigger... Doh! The gun was very accurate and I had the highest "A" count of the match (all divisions), but my speed/time was the detriment to my overall score - not unexpected as I am a newbie and my goal was to make it through the match without hitting a no-shoot (still grazed one of those) or a DQ. As I said before, I liked the gun, but not as much as my other 2. So, after this outing I actually have a better opinion of it than I did previously, and I will probably use it for more matches. BTW, the trigger spring upgrade does help with the DA pull. I don't see myself doing any trigger work on this as it is smooth as butter right now.

One thing I have found as a lefty, there are not a lot of options for holsters and some pistols are certainly better than others for ease of use.

Back to the ammo issue. A funny thing happened the day before the match. Another shooter was having problems with accuracy with his M&P 40. Another very good shooter was only able to shoot 6" groupings with his pistol. On changing to his own ammunition the grouping improved significantly. I believe the problem boxes were AE 165gn. At least 2 or 3 boxes were affected, maybe more. His gun sounded like the charge was hot, like a magnum or hand cannon!

165gr? did you mean 115gr? I have a beretta and tend to stick to 124gr ammo. but try a few different ones and see what works best for you.

I have half a box of American Eagle .44 Magnum at my local dealer (6 months at least) waiting for the Federal Representative to have a look at them as they show signs of over-pressure ie:flattened primers.
These were the first 44 magnum rounds that I ever shot so I couldn't tell if they were "hot" or not from the recoil, I have shot lots of different ammo since and none look like the ones in the picture.
So I suppose it is possible that the ammo you had was not within specs.

As you can see from the pic above...if something seems strange check the brass. Very simple and it could save your hand/face some grief. QC isn't perfect anywhere and with a gun prudence should rule the day.

Nice primers on those 44 Mag cases! Placed back in block as fired?
