Girsan Regard Yavuz Compact - long term review.

Have you tried dropping the Beretta barrel assembly into the Girsan to check for compatibility?

A couple of years back I was in a gun store that was really impressed by the Girsans. They told me a story of some known gunsmith who came in and completely dissembled a Beretta and Girsan. With each pistol being completely torn down on the counter, each was rebuilt using parts intermixed from the other.

Who be interested to know if there's any validity to their story.

I have had my full size for over 2 years, ran 1000's of rnds. thru it, and not a problem. The factory Beretta grips fit perfectly.

The Beretta Barrel and assembly dropped into the Girsan slide and I was able to put the slide on the gun and cycle it. Lock up seemed the same. The Girsan barrel dropped into the Beretta slide but I could not get the slide to run all the way onto the frame. I suspect the Girsan locking block is a little bit out of spec and would need a little fitting.

Looks good! I already have a Beretta but if I didn't and was looking for a 9mm it'd be one of top contenders, esp for the price it's hard beat! Plus Beretta design is fool proof reliable!

Well that's good news, new style locking blocks will work on the Girsan which is a good thing.

I put some VZ grips I had laying around on the Girsan tonight. I had to do some fitting to get the grips to work, but they offer better texture than the slippery stock grips. It boggles the mind why VZ would not texture the upper part of the grip. It's painful really. I also installed some grip tape. I've had good success with grip tape wrapped under the grips on a 1911, so hopefully this stay put. It felt OK in dry fire tonight.

I repainted the front sight as the "black with orange dot" was not durable and the sight picture wasn't great. I like the front sight below much better and the orange Tremclad is much more durable than the black paint I had on it before. I shoot the dot with my Beretta's so, we'll see how I do at 25 yards tomorrow. The only thing that bugs me about a full orange front sight is the lack of definition on the sides as it sits in the rear notch.

I purchased the Girsan Regard MC AKA Yavuz 16 full size, I have 500 rounds through it with no malfunctions at all. They seem to be 100 percent compatible with Beretta parts. I have installed the Beretta skeletal hammer so far and have a few other parts on order. Very happy with this firearm.

yesterday i tried replacing the disassembly lever of my girsan compact with a Beretta 92 one ... not fitting at all
it took some grinding and dremeling to fit it as it was way too big
not finished with it yet but should fit after a bit more work. some bare metal is now showing a bit also a some places

also ordered a beretta D spring but cant figure out how to remove the pin from the Girsan to acces the hammer spring
the pin seem stuck and when i put pressure on the gun to loose it, nothing moves at all anywhere
so if anybody has a girsan and can tell me if they were able to remove the hammer spring pin, id like to get some advice

also ordered a recoil spring... not sure if its normal but that thing seems way too long to replace the Girsan one
something seems not right... maybe its because i have the compact version it just doesnt seem to fit correctly

so im either stupid and ordered the wrong parts
or the Girsan is not 100% identical to a beretta

these are the brownells parts i ordered

I had to take a brass drift and a hammer to mine pretty aggressively to get mine out. Putting it back in wasn't all that much fun either.

I used a roll pin punch and a ball peen hammer and punched it out. You have to hammer fairly hard to get the pin out. Its much easier if you have somebody hold the frame as you use the hammer and punch. It comes out fairly easy, then the spring just pops out. be careful because the lanyard loop will become a projectile! Getting it back in is the challenge.

Wrong recoil spring, that is for the full size, don't use it...
Take down lever can be touched up with cold blue, it is steel. Better to have minor fitting so it's tight then too loose...
