its going to be way cheeper to shoot more bullets all freakin day !!!!!!




Did a whopping 1000 + rounds of 9mm 124gn over the long weekend -- on a single freakin stage press.
It took me forever and I still have another 3000 just on 9mm.

BUT the good news is that there is an upgrade ..

I picked up a gently used Lee Load Master with all the works - 9mm 38-357mag 40s&w 44mag 45acp dies plates auto powder 5x measure, primer trays spares galore etc etc...

now to figure that system out when I give the loader a once goin over ----- more questions to follow here soon ! lol.

PS - I want to thank again the great peeps in here thats given me great advice on reloading. !!!
 
Reloading was never for saving money, first it was to upgrade performance, now that quality modern ammo is almost on par with good reloads, the big saving are on time... JP.

im not sure yet on 9mm but for sure 45acp and 40s&w should save me some $ with bulk purchasing.

the 12 g slugs im doing is normally $1 per shot Im doing it for around 26 cents

 
Bought 1K Rem 7/8 ounces 3 inchs (1875 fps) rifled slug for 449.00 all in at le baron in the big -10% plus no tax sale. 2 years ago, once in a while you get great deals, here one of the bag, 4 more were in the trunk of my car... JP.

uhhhh i dont think your right on that one... i can load 50 rounds of .338LM in an hour , at about 1.50 a round. using quality components.. =75 bucks spent... now to buy 50 match grade rounds of 338LM, id be looking at $5 a round, = 250$... a differance of 125$ now its apparent that youve been very financialy successful in life and thats great, but im betting very few people on here make 125$ an hour take home at their jobs... now if we are talking somthing like 9mm, for plinking and having fun, i agree is just as cheap to buy bulk ammo and you dont have to spend the time to reload it

I too cast my own slugs but I use high brass shells and twice the powder so it's a little more $ per
 
With quantity and quality, you get good price, sure there is a max of saving on 50 or 100 rounds but what then you buy 400 Wty Norma original ammo in 257 Wty mag (various weight) for 700.00 all in not, much saving here, knowing that if you buy only the cases you will pay one dollar a piece... just saying... JP.
 
I would not do 9mm on a single stage.
Sometimes at the range I will go into an ammo waste frenzy and shoot 10 mags in a row as fast as I can for fun.
Reloading single stage on 9mm? no. ;)

For me doing 9mm it works out to about 0.15.55 cents per round or $7.78 per 50.
That includes with all taxes in;
1) Free range brass
2) powder in bulk (4lbs jugs)
3) Primers
4) Cam Pro Bullets
5) Vinegar and dish soap (Sonic Cleaner)
6) Lemon "Finish" powder dishwasher rinse agent. (makes shiney, kinda like lemi-shine)
7) A wack of "quality" time with the wife and I doing it together in the eve.

I figure its costing me 170 dollars to load 1000 9mm....The cheapest I see 1000 go for now is around 300 dollars, especially after taxes. And only takes max 2 hours on the ammoplant.

Many of us reload more for custom ammo for our firearms and uses than to save money. I'm in it for both reasons. I don't know anyone who is competitive in IPSC, IDPA, benchrest, silhouette etc. etc. who does not reload.

Good for you OP on your dedication on the single stage. You are going to enjoy the progressive a lot!

You might get some people telling you that the Loadmaster is a piece of junk but don't believe it. There is a learning curve for sure but if you keep it clean (especially the priming system), don't force it if things aren't running smooth and check out the excellent videos that are available it will give you many years of good service. I have two, one for small primer cases and one for large primer cases (cause I'm to lazy to bother switching them over when I change calibers) and I am perfectly happy with them.

GIVE A PERSON BULLETS AND THAT WILL LAST A DAY....TEACH A PERSON TO RELOAD.........

And all you've done is create more competition for the already non-existant powders that we need...........I think powder sales should be on a seniority bases..........What do you think H4831, Why Not? and Eagleye? :p:p;);)

Well IM going to say that Im NOT used to it yet. I need lots of practice - right now on my draws Im looking for a dot to co-witness with the iron. Im very slow right now with it.
 
cool! I load 9mm on a single stage as well, after 200 rounds its time for a break though.

theres not as much saving on 9mm as on some other calibers obviously but even still it can save some, or shoot MOAR for the same $$$

even if your buy say MFS 9mm at $210/1000

1000 FMJ bullets $85
Primers-----------$35
Powder-----------$15-20
Brass picked up off the ground at the range-----$0

and that's all just buying minimum quantitites, cheaper if buying in bulk

so $135 to have brass cased FMJ 9mm ammo or 210 for steel cased FMJ

and about 8 hours time with a single stage:rolleyes:

where you really see $$$ saving are on calibers that aren't much more expensive to load but factory ammo is WAY more $$$ like .357. not much more $$$ to load than 9mm but double the price for factory ammo.

$150 per 1000 .357 instead of $425
 
single stage is not for volume reloading unless you are nuts.
if you are poort get a loadmaster at least. it "works".
