Its been a while i have been learning and passing on some limited knowledge on CGN. I also have bought, sold and traded numerous .22 rifles on EE to happy new owners. Many of them i have re-worked and made better by repairs in my limited ability. What i have decided to do now is use my knowledge to make someones kid happy.
I have given away a mod 39 recently to a young man 10 yo. He absolutely loves it. Gives him an opportunity to keep close with his father as his parents are divorced. I am happy i could do this... This sport should be one to bring us closer. My father did it for me. Let me fire first pistol and a .22 got me into guns and i have great hobby i love to share with anyone who is interested.
So having said that i will be interested in fixing/reworking/prettying up one single shot cooey such as mod 39, canuck, eatonia, ace etc.
What i have in mind is if you got that cooey for your kid and its old and ugly as sin or you want to donate one to a new young shooter to start with and its just too rough for a gift and you do not have the ability, cash or gun is just not worth refinishing professionally to make it nice i will refinish it free of charge... just pay shipping both ways. Note:I am not professional so it will not be a new gun when i am done. Will be cold blue and true oil ( depending on condition also) and this gun can not be sold. It must be given away to a youngster as a first gun.
Also i will be collecting any cooey junk parts to put together another gun to be given away here on CGN... so if you have anything you can start me with i will add what i have and collect the rest. I will be posting the progress here,. Will be fun. Once completed i will figure out a way to give it away fairly.
All I ask in return that a short story with picture with new owner will be posted in the cooey make over thread or in this one.. So please share what you think of these ideas.

Here too! GREAT idea!!
I don't have any Cooey parts at all, but I know there are a lot of nutters here who may be able to help ya.
Look forward to the pic(s) yet to come!

I just picked up a lakefiled 64. I'll be refinishing it completely and giving it to a new shooter... no charge. This will be my 3rd gun given away to 3 different kids. Their parents shoot but can't afford to get their kids their own gun. I'm not wealthy by any means but I feel that it's the best way to help out the sport. I recently sold a bunch of stuff on CGN to help finance the gifts. Anything to help out some new shooters that can't afford it.

Awesome. I thought I was the one with original idea. I wish I had some cash to spare.
Well maybe in the future.

I've been lucky with an amazing wife. She understands and puts up with my crap... er.... stuff. When we bought this house 5 years ago, she knew I needed a bigger garage. It's now 24x32 up from a 16x20. It's amazing the amout of goodies I've packed away in the last 20 years ... LOL. For the last year, she's been patiently asking me to get rid of my "junk". So I have and this is the way I've been giving back. I took one of the new shooters to the last EOSC winter mil-shoot. Even after 6 weeks have gone by, he still tells him mom that it was the best day of his life. He shot my 96 swede and my little stevens 200 in .223. He actually got to touch a ma-deuce, m1919 and an mg34. The look on his face was priceless. Now my 9 year old wants to come out. He's already shot my 17hmr, 22 semi, 223 stevens and my 50 cal muzzleloader. I recently traded a bolt action 12ga for a bolt action 20ga. I'll continue to help out the shooting sports by getting new shooters involved. Grow the sport or let it die... best way in my opinion is to help out as many as I can with innexpensive gifts and mentor them as best I can. I'm glad that I'm not the only one...

Drslav -great idea. There are more than one of us who do this kind of thing. I have given away a few rifles in my time to deserving kids and some adults too! I'm not wealthy by a very long shot and have similar skills like yours. I also have a couple of lathes and a reasonably well-equipped shop I have built up over the last 40 years. I do work for friends only. The 15 year old kid on the other side of the lake where I live is getting a cooey 39 when I finish it. He doesn't know it yet. His Mom is in on it. Gonna be a hoot when we give it to him!!

Is this of any use to you? Glad to donate it, if it is.

It's a Cooey Model 75 which i have owned since somewhere around 1957 (I can't remember exactly what year I was given it...). It's really not in that bad shape (needs a TON of cleaning etc.) and the last time I shot it - maybe 20 years ago - it was still a sweet little gun.

Problem is, I no longer have the bolt for it - misplaced I guess during some move or another.

But, you're welcome to it if you want. Let me know.

I'd be happy to take that and refinish it and donate it to a youngster.... here is a pic of a cooey I recently did ..... thebuckhunter is a friend of mine and will vouch... i'll pay to ship it and we will refinish it and post the results here and see if there is a needy shooter we can donate it to?... you donate the gun I donate my time and material....

Nice job Brad. I like to refinish mine in tung oil. Looks amazing but really stinks up the garage. I'm refinishing a 20ga for my son at the moment. She was a little rough but perfect for my son. I'll be posting pics up in the shotgun section in a week or so.
