Give me a break!!

hollow points

I don,t know how long it has been illegal, but our local gun store guy tells me if someone asks for hollow point bullets that are for both rifle and handgun (ie .22 rimfire hp or 45ACP hp) he is suppost to ask what they are to be used in. if in a handgun he cannot sell them to you.

When I took my PAL course here in Ontario the instructor told me that hollow point ammunition for handguns is illegal. However, there are a lot of dual cartridges and they can't tell what you are going to be stuffing them into. Just passing on what I was told.

You could explain to him that among the various uses for them, IPSC guys use hollow points when available because they tend to group a little better than round nose bullets. Simple; compare a 230 grain RN to a 230 grain HP and the HP will be a little longer (the mass has to go somewhere). Longer bullet = longer bearing surface and better stability.

But then they will already know that since they know everything there is to know about everything.

worst than that, We need to realize this actually append in a sport/hunting store!!
We almost can't even buy HP rounds for SD....WTF!!!

Now just imagine our global situation regarding firearms in Canada...

I agree, however, in all fairness, it's the CFSC instructors that are the problem. They spew this BS in their courses. I was told the same thing during my course and I believed him because he was a police officer giving a government course, why would he lie? Who knows.

Too bad the Lebarons in Ottawa is much better. They may not be too up to speed on guns but at least they treat you with respect.

yes they do
I got the same reaction when i ask for jhp in 357 .........which i have always bought ........and if i recall its the cheapest ammo in 357 ........... if you feel really bad ........tell them to F_ck off and don't go there anymore :D

I bought some 230 grain .45 FMJ ACP ammo from LeBarons and asked them if they also had JHP. I got a smirk, a "NO", and a "why would you want that for?"! Am I wrong for being insulted? I asked if jacketed hollow point ammunition was illegal and he said no but it's only used for one thing. Give me a frigg'n break! Would anyone else be peeved at this or am I being anal?

Move to Alberta. They have the biggest selection at P&D in Edmonton.

Net time buddy tries to sell you fmj, open the box and pull one out. After a 2 second inspection, say something to the effect of "nope, these won't work".

Because hollow points are *generally* more expensive than FMJ, they always try to push them. I once had a young guy at the counter of TSE ask me what I was going to use HP's for....I smiled and the conversation ended.

PAPER OF COURSE.

That is one of the reasons I don't buy at LeBaron.

They always gave me the "look" when I was buying more than 500 rounds.

I checked through all the firearms acts, regualtions, etc. Nothing about hollow points being illegal.

they are perfectly legal, don't let the naysayers steer you wrong you may have to load your own, but they are legal to own.

the next person that writes that hollow point bullets are not legal in Ontario better come up with a link to the regulation or statute that states so.

BTW - that's what the police force uses

I was at a gun show in Ontario and the guy asked what kind of gun I would shoot the .357 JHPs in. Told him revolver. He said too bad I didn't say lever action and would not sell them to me. Obviously was not too interested in selling them. (No skin off my nose, bought a box a few booths down). Some people just don't know whether their ass is punched, bored or drilled!

Tex sends

Next time Fudd behind the counter says something dumb, ask him to put it in writing.
Any idiot can say "they are illegal", but to sign their name to such a statement usually gets their attention.

I don,t know about the rest of Canada, but in Ontario it is illegal to use hollow point bullets in a handgun.

BullSh!T!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WTF do you get your info from ?

The only restriction i have heard is that its illegal to bring them into Canada as in everyday joe six pack and I have "heard" the restriction may have been lifted bu i can't confirm it

but its perfectly legal to use them in a hand gun!
I haven't heard anything so stooooooooooooPid in my life!!!!!!

where do people get these stories?
