Give Me Your Recommedations for Shotgun Deer Gun

A 20 is all you need for deer but as a bear stopper I'd agree and go 12.Mind you in a repeater..........Harold

Savage 220 all the way. It will offer accuracy that can embarrass many rifles at the 100 yrd range. Better trigger and lighter carry weight than any shotgun.

And get the full length pictanny rail for max scope adjustment. My son bought the 12ga version.Harold

870's and 11-87's are decently accurate but triggers are terrible. Dedicated slug guns such as the savage or browning a-bolt are the best options for accuracy and good triggers which go hand and hand. Don't let anyone tell you a 20 gauge is as effective as a 12 either because it is definitely not true. 20 is more recoil friendly for sure with a huge energy deficit.

Many better brand 20 gauge sabots have equal energy-trajectory to the 454 Casull. Does one need anything more recoil punishing for just mule deer/WT deer/antelope??
I go along with mbogo3 here, 12 gauge is much better choice for black bear and wild boar.

I don't see why a 260gr with a MV of 1800 fps would not be good for Black Bear at baiting distances?
I would agree with your statement freddy. Woods wandering the close bush I prefer a 12 gauge stuffed with Brennekes. But for long wait at closer to medium ranges nothing wrong about a speedy 20 bore & sabot/premium bullets in a rifled barrel.

I got a BPS a while back and love it. Light to carry (was on my shoulder through 2 months in the Rockies and I never noticed it) and it's damn accurate and the smoothest pump I've handled out of the box and it hangs, to me, just as good as my Dad's Wingmaster.

BPS gets my vote too for an all round hunting setup. However I will agree with the Savage for a rifled barrel shotgun.

I just started working with this BPS Predator. Awesome Shotgun, quality built, accurate, and a ridiculously smooth action.

It would be very interesting to know if those fine shotguns that are strong bolt actions, rifled barrels, set up for optics, actually give someone a significant advantage to deer hunters at what is normal deer hunting ranges. Almost equal to a kind of unusual 'varmint shotgun' and what kind ammo will give you equal performance to the platform and good to excellent optics?? Plus one is most often at the mercy of only local store bought deer sabot ammo.
Versus other firing platforms.
I only say this because in the shotgun deer zones I haunted, this kind of cash expenditure usually went upon a modern inline muzzle loading rifle and the most popular copper jacketed pistol bullets?

maybe or maybe not
