Hi Everyone

My Dad gave me a BNIB Browning M-12 Grade 1 a few years ago for my sons to shoot when they were a little older. Long story I won’t go into but I stashed it away until the other day. My youngest wants to try shooting clays so I pulled it out. It is still too big for him but what a great gun! I am really impressed all-around. I didn’t know it was a Winchester replica so I compared it to my Dad’s old Winchester Model 12 skeet (pre-60’s I think) and sure enough it is.

This gun and my boy’s new found interest in shooting has renewed my interest in shooting and hunting. I’m surprised at the quality of the build and especially the wood. I think I’ll pick him up a youth gun and shoot this one myself lol. Time to check out the local club, Dewinton I think, and build some memories with my boys.

Does anyone here have any experience with local clubs near Calgary? I don’t have a place to shoot so Dewinton was my first thought.

AHEIA Dewinton is the best place to shoot shotguns in Calgary

Great gift. Your boy will love it and it will last him a lifetime. I actually prefer the repro's to the originals of which I have owned several of each. I find the actions smoother on the Browning/Winchester repro's and I like the safety interuptor on the repro's over the slam fire of the original. I currently have a Browning Grade 5. It's my second Grade 5 in a 20ga. Also had the Grade 1 -20, Grade 1 & 5 in 28ga and two of the Winchester DU 20's. They are awesome guns!
And AHEIA is a fantastic facility to shoot at. Enjoy your reacquaintance with the clay shooting sports. :)

If the gun was gifted NIB to your son... I'd tend to keep it this way and let him be the first one to actually use it.

Absolutely, it will fit my oldest son for sure but I’ll have to wait until he’s back for the summer before he can. Until then, I’ll track down a youth gun for my youngest and check out the local trap club.

Check out the Mossleigh Gun Club just south east of Calgary. They have a junior program that runs on Tuesday evenings for a couple of months in the early summer where kids are taught to shoot trap by some good coaches. Targets and shells for the youths are also subsidized to encourage enrolment and in return it’s asked that the kids help out at some of the shoots. Parents can also get some time on the line as well, it’s a great way to spend some quality time with your kids!

That’s great to know, thank you. I’ll check into that

Speaking of "Mossleigh", a buddy farms between Mossleigh and Vulcan and every summer (around the last week of June) he hosts a clay shoot at his farm. Some bring campers and stay the weekend. Has a REALLY good turnout. Regarding finding a "youth" gun, I bought one of these https://www.cabelas.ca/product/21734/mossberg-510-mini-super-bantam-field-pump-shotgun for my grandson (he is 9 years old) and he shoots it quite well. It come a little on the light side and my research before buying suggested that, due to this it kicks the hell out of the little guys but a guy on youtube put a nylon stocking in the butt stock and filled it with BB's. Added about 2 LBS to the total weight and reduced the recoil SUBSTANTIALLY. It also Brough the balance to somewhere around the front of the receiver. It fits my 9 YO grandson quite well WITH the spacer installed. Not sure who they expect to be shooting it without the spacer.........5-6 year olds???. If you are interested in the June shoot, send me a message and I will give you Wade's contact.
