I have a piece of 1"x6" figured maple that has been sitting in storage for a worthy purpose... perhaps it may come out for another build ;) I really want to build a .22 and a .223 No.4 Enfield, If I get my hands on butchered action to work off of I'll likely be doing a stock for it as well.

Correct, there is no contact forward of the receiver (unless the barrel deflects 1/16" in any direction). I'm thinking of bedding the first inch of barrel with a bit of upward pressure as per the accurising standards for Enfields

Good to see Silverdale isn't snowed in completely, but I guess you guys don't get much snow down there. :D

Are you going to add a 1 inch extension on the end of the barrel to give it a bayo-lug? I'm told this can be done with chopped Enfields.

a little barrel extension would make it look better, bayo lugs can be made but that is not easy. then you have to thread it or use low temp solder to fix it.

when I did my tanker I backed the front sight base back far enough that the barrel would protrude and look normal.

But that wood is fantastic. I have been thinking of how to make a rough stock duplicator all week :)

This looks intrigueing... and possible to make... Explanation says it's a all person controlled, so no computer to deal with. Seems the "feeling" pin determines how far the cutting head can go in any direction, and the cutting head is free to work its way through the wood until then. As long as you made a rigid rig to hold the cutter and feeling arm, you would be pretty set IMHO.

I have built two stocks before for my buddy, both out of nice pine.

Considering that I had never made a stock before, they turned out wonderfully. I will be building one for my remington out of Walnut, but this time I will attempt to use my mini mill to cut it slightly more accuately.

It is always more satisfying to own a gun that you have put your time and energy into building. It makes it "yours".
