Giving Xmetal bullets a try

Decided I would give them a try, and spread the smell at my indoor range!

Just purchased 9mm 147gr FP, to be shot from a minor classic 1911.
Anyone use these specifically?
Care talking on how you set them up, powder, OAL and crimp wise?

They should be close to my campros, but gathering a few opinions never hurts.
Asking here instead of the reload section, as these bullets are most likely used by IPSC shooter!
 
is your 1911 has a ramped barrel? because, 9mm-147FP runs better with a ramped. If you don't have one, you should used the 125gr or 147gr RN http://xmetaltargets.com/fr/produit/ogives-paragon-9mm-147gr-hi-tek/
For the last 2 years, I have run this bullet in my STI spartan and my shadow 2. Realy precise and very smooth. I used only 3.0gr of titegroup to make the PF at 130fps
when you will reload it, take care of over crimp the bullet. Because this bullet doesn't have the copper jacket, you need to crimp just a little bit. When you disassemble a reloaded ammo, you should see only a thin line where the crimp was.
try that and let me know how it is
 
Yes i'm running a fully ramped barrel (springfield RO)
Wow only 3.0gr TG, that is good to know.
Campro is also very crimp sensitive as it can tear the jacket off, i should do ok

Whats your oal on 147s FP?
 
with the flat point I did 1.100". because I was using those ammo on 3 differents gun. My SP01, shadow 2 and my 1911. So probably you can put it longer in the 1911. I have never try.
With the 147 RN, I run with an oal of 1.150" and that is perfect!
 
Measure the bullet diameter compared to a campro. the 9s and 40s I have tried are all oversize and wont case gauge.
 
Personally doubtful as to what the benefit is going from Campro to Xmetal, the cost is a bit more than plated. I assume there will be more barrel cleaning involved when using coated against plated(?). Smells awful too.. Going faster with less powder comes to mind but is it worth the cost and effort...
 
Cost here is smaller xmetal than campro
But even if it wasn't, i was used to shoot 12-13K rounds of 40 a year before breaking my elbow.
9mm now seems cheap to shoot whatever i decide to shoot

Out of curiosity, can you weight a few of your 147gr bullets and see if they're actually 147gr and not such a wide variance as the 125gr ones I had which were anywere from 122gr to 125gr. Probably won't make a lot of difference for my skill level... lol

My Shadow 2 did not like the 125gr pills. I thought I found a good load for it and used it to qualify for my BB course and could only get around 7-8rnds out of 10 on an IPSC size target at 25yrds. My instructor was surprised 'cause he's seen me shoot at the range in the past and knew I was capable of better groupings. Shot another mag of the 125gr and similar outcome. Instructor told me, if I can't put 10rnds in that target, it might be a short day for me. FLustered, I grabbed a mag of my regular 124gr Campro reloads and got all 10 hits in the Alpha/Charlie no probs. Got turned off X-Metal after that.

I got an AND fx120 scale i use for rifle reloading,
Don't mind sampling let's say 20 campro bullets and 20 xmetal bullets
Am curious myself

In the past when i had done this, i was testing zero vs campro
Zero bullets we're near perfection, if i'd be shooting for and had skill for 1st spot, i would consider my old reloads of zero bullets + vvn320
Shooting casual so campro + tg does it for me

I had similar experience with reloaded ammo using xmetal pils and complete xmetal ammo. My 25m target looked like it been hit with some 00 buckshot and closer range yielded to similar results. I switch back to S&B,AE and reloaded campro ammo I always use, and everything went back to normal...

I didn't know they offered a FP but have just loaded the last of my 5000 Paragons and have only positive comments. I load 1.100" with 3.1 gr Vectan Prima V. It's a very accurate load out of Shadow, Shadow 2 and STI Spartan. I don't care for Titegroup with coated bullets. It burns too hot and melts the backs and is very smokey. Benchresting with a dot from a Shadow 2 I couldn't see a difference between the Campro vs Paragons. I just weighed the only 2 loose Paragons I could find and they were 146 gr and 146.2 gr. FP are nice for the easy to see holes though, I'll have to check them out.
 
I ran 124grn Xmetal for about 5000rds, won 3rd place PPC Marksman last year with them. I switched to campro's, just because I couldn't get xmetal anymore.

Found 400rds of Xmetal I loaded, shot it at 25M with my Hi point Carbine and got fairly good accuracy. about 2.5" Off hand.

But I did notice after shooting plated bullets. Xmetal smells like melted plastic when fired.
