Today marks 19 years since the events that brought an end to Operation: Restore Hope in the horn of Africa.

Interestingly, Kenyan Defense Forces are in the midst of securing towns south of Mogadishu today. From what I understand they did a beach assault earlier this week to secure Kisimayo with the intention of ousting the Islamists from the capital.

As far as their fighting tech goes: it looks very similar to 1993. I know a lot of you guys aren't on FB so I thought I'd post a few photos. I'm not super knowledgeable on the different H&K .308 variants. Can someone ID these for me?

Some of them are rocking more modern kit though:

One of the most dependable rifle platform there is altough most Somalian conscripts have issues controling the muzzle rise of said weapon.

While a battle rifle of a bygone era, I don't think anyone would feel undergunned with a G3 by any means. Rocking HK product in a part of the world where rusted out AK's are the norm must feel like eating a AAA steak while everyone else chows on meatloaf.

Definetly G3! I had one some time ago. The 308 will put a bad guy down better than the 5.56 ot 7.62x34! BTW, only South Africa permits hunters to wear cammo for hunting. All other African countries prohibit it being worn by civilians.

Considering 5.56 was made to wound and not kill, I'll tale 7.62 nato any day. Go down for the show and not for a squeal reappearance.

did anyone catch the m14( possibly a chinese knockoff) in that column of filipino insurgents that made the news a clouple of nights ago- the rest were aks, but the third fellow in had a 14

Rumor have it the chinese m14 was intended for filipino insurgents, they even go as far as making ammos with US stamping on it.

You could buy those for 399.00 in 1983-84ish. I fired them and compared to the F.N., they had a distinctive recoil from the delayed roller mechanism I thought. Felt kinda funny actually something like an Auto 12's double whammy. You recall the recoil sensation Chuck?
