I've always been interested in target shooting and firearms in general. About 2 years ago I talked to my dad about his 2 long guns, regarding would happen to them when he passed away. I knew that without a licensed person to take them over upon his death, they'd probably end up in an OPP warehouse for unwanted firearms. So, last year I took the CFSC so I could accept his guns. It was my good luck that my wife also was interested and took the CFSC with me.
I now have his Ruger 10/22 carbine, and eventually I'll get his Boito .20 ga side by side. He wanted to keep it for now to scare away crows (he hates their squawking, what can I say).
I later took the restricted course because I would like to learn handgun target shooting (plus my libertarian side said get the permission now before they ban it).
I have since learned that handguns are more expensive and harder to find than I thought. Having said that I decided that if some $$$ fell into my lap I'd look for a .22 handgun; when I got the Ruger he also gave me about 400 .22 rounds. I thought that at least to start, if I could use the same rounds it would keep it simple and later I could decide to try bigger calibers if I wanted to.
Cabela's in Barrie has a S&W Model 617 .22 LR for $899 that looks very sharp. Maybe I need to start buying lottery tickets again
Cheers
