Glass for Coyote Rig

I would not purchase Vortex below their PST line, in fact I didn't. I also own Bushnell scopes.

I really like my 4-16 Vortex, however for a starting budget for a value/dollar spent riflescope, Bushnell is hard to beat.
 
Try to go with Nikon or Burris if you're on a budget, I'm not a fan of Bushnell glass and I wouldn't buy Vortex below the Viper level. The best thing Bushnell and Vortex have going for them is their warranty and if they were built better you wouldn't need to worry about that.
I had a Bushnell elite 6500 2.5-16 and the glass was terrible, I sold it at a loss and never looked back.

Vortex has a lifetime no fault gaurantee.. I have the xfireII you are considering.. its pretty good glass and I have hands on experience with that no fault... and glad I did/do...

My rifle fell over and the bell on the big end hit the only protruding screw head on the deck. How this happened is beyond my understanding as the screwhead is right close to a post and on the opposite side of the railing on which the rifle was tipped up on.. none the less the bell was dinged bad enough the the shade could not be spun on. 100% my own damn fault

I called vortex, they directed me to the claims page online. I filled out the info and packed it all up. 25 bucks shipping from Van Isle to Ontario, just under a month and a shiny new repaired scope was shipped back to me on their dime. So yeah.. I am grateful for that and will most likely buy again becuase of that no fault service. yeah.. made in china.. unfortunately but they've got good selection.

"good glass" will not have a blue or gold hue around the objectives. This is also more pronounced the more you magnify your target.
I also have a millet 6x25x65 .... Its a beast! nearly 2 ft long with the shade.. and a 35 mm tube. but shes nice.. I paid just around 450 plus BST for it.

I would consider a scope that has a lower magnification at the lower end. I have always found a 2.5-10 to be decent. You may find the 4X to be to much if they get in close and are on the move.
 
Hi , On my 223 I have Bushnel ultra legend 4.5 - 14 which is great, on my 243 I have a Steiner 3-12 which is fantastic. One cost $360.00 the other $1100.00 so it depends what you want to spend. I would go with the Bushnel for just plain hunting

I agree. I was tryog to put this to words but having brain farts...It gets hard to follow or put a bead on something when youre field of view is diminished by the higher magnification scopes.. and then the futzing around if you need to reduce magnification..... if youre shooting from some stationary position and waiting... well maybe the bigger scope will be okay... (like target shooting) but on the fly and stalking... less probably be better for a quick bead and blast...
