Trial and error. I've had a Nightforce shv 2-10 on mine. I've also had a Trijicon TR27 1-8 on it and it n9w wears a Burris RT6 1-6. All have large ocular bells and fit but it is tight. Personally a 1-6/7/8/10 power optic is about perfect.
I had the same questions when I first got my rifles. I did a lot of looking at occular bell sizes and rings.
On my 527 carbine I have a Vortex Viper in Warne QD rings. On my 527 Varmint I have a Nikon Prostaff 5 (?) In Tally rings.
I've had a Vortex Viper 3-9x40 and a Bushnell Engage 4-12x40 on mine. Both on Leupold medium rings (part #54360). Both fit and worked fine but I wasn't blown away by either of them so I just ordered a Leupold VX-3i 3.5-10x50.
Just got a Leupold VX-3i 2.5-8x36 from Wanstalls. It currently serves double duty on a 455 and 527, both with rails. Really happy with the scope, especially on the 455, but I might want a bit more power on the 527. Time will tell.
Be aware that older version of this rifle had a different shaped bolt handle than the newer versions. The new ones have better clearance for the scope ocular bell. Perhaps the answer is changing your bolt handle. I know of one outfit (Calhoon) in the USA that takes the old handles in on trade and sells you a new one. CZ USA list a replacement bolt handle too , but it is out of stock. BOLT HANDLE 527 NEW STYLE Product Number: 40110 Availability: Out of Stock Your Price US$35.00
I tried a handful of factory ammo, including that Hornady, and found Federal Fusion to be the most accurate. I'll track down those targets tonight if you're interested. There's no saying our rifles will like the same ammo but, if I'm remembering right, the Hornady shot about the same for me as it did for you.
I’ve got a dip rail with Nikon 2-7 with warne Med qd rings works great shooting 4 inch gong at a 100yds off hand is so much fun.
My only complaint is with the rail you can’t see the irons
