I have wanted to try a Savage Scout since the first version (Model 10FMC) came out but still haven't gotten around to it. There's now a Model11 Scout languishing in the EE, price falling (presumably because one of our brethren needs cash for Christmas? somebody go help him) and I have restrained myself because I have enough bolt-actions and in particular if I get off my arse and finish my FrankEnfield No5 Mannlicher scout project (bought irrevocably sportered) the .303British will do anything I need a .308 for.

And last week I was in Wholesale Sports with a friend while he scooped the last three Mini-14s at a price less than most people ask for a used one. I passed on those because although I'd like one, I don't want one enough to put it on a credit card. Said quite sincerely to my friend it looked like there was nothing left there worth me ever coming back.

But the Saskatoon store is next door to Princess Auto and I had to go there today, I am in funds and Wholesale just dropped even firearms and ammo to 40-60% so maybe there's some of the latter...

... I had walked into an ambush: Marlin 1894 in .44Mag, fit and finish tight and smooth, a few pennies under $600, taxed. That's my Christmas present, as I have been so good as described above. I cycled a full mag of snap caps through it twice, worked just as it should.

I'll wrap it up tonight and set up the tree to put it under. May you all get something this Christmas that you have been wanting, the longer the better, especially if you have given up thinking you would ever.

I'm going to head down today. I'm expecting it to be pretty picked over.

South EDM common was really picked over. Pretty much just cheap starter rifles and cheap Turkish shotguns. Only nice stuff left was a few Waterfowl style autoloaders. I bought a Winchester Defender for $250. Store is almost empty.
