Hi guys I recently inherited a Mohawk 555. After doing some research and finding out its unique Canadian/Russian history I decided to have it verified by a gunsmith to see if was safe to fire.
The gunsmith checked it out and said it was OK to shoot. He did not verify the ability to cycle.
I took it to the range and it shot OK. It did however have issues with destroying brass. The extractor would tear of a chunk of the rim. Also, the brass came out with such vigor that it gets dented as it struck the receiver. I'm sure this can be remedied by adjustment of the gas system.
One issue that is bothering my is that the gun doesn't always return to battery after a shot. The gun will not fire and requires a recocking of the action (thereby ejecting a freshly loaded round)
Any knowledgeable Mohawk owners on here will to help???
