Gentlemen; what does any one know about the mausers Globe sported in the 50's and 60's? I am looking at a .308 and I wonder if it would be a 96 or 98 Mauser action? Any info would be a big help.

Globe model 88's (I think that is the correct model number) were built on small ring actions, model 98's were large ring actions. The model number should be on the barrel. I have had two Globe model 98's. Both were made from late war production K98's. There were no guide ribs on the bolts and the gas escape holes in the bolts were round.

I would use caution when purchasing the Globe model 98's. The late production k98's that they used were not the best quality. On one I previously owned, you could cut one of the locking lugs easily with a file and the other was so hard the file would just glance off. The other one I owned was as hard as a hen's face on both lugs and actually had hairline cracks around the lugs.

The Globe mausers I have seen in .308, were small ring mausers.

There was a Globe Firearms company in Ottawa that sporterized military firearms. They closed back in the 1980's I recall. The examples I remember were pretty crude. Might be the same company.
