looking to buy a glock 17 for fun and not for idpa or IPSC just target practice

will buy a gen 4 for the larger mag release

is the long slide much less muzzle jump as the weight is almost the same odd

and is the competition one easier to,sell as it might be popular, and what mos sights can be had and pricing

anything else I am missing

Jeff

what is a G17 competition?
dont see that listed on the glock website.

youd probably just do fine with the G17 base model.
ive got the G17C and i love it.
if you insist on spending $400 more for the same gun then you could go for the gen4 and if your looking for resale that would probably be your best bet - that and add the MOS.

but for just looking to have fun just get a Gen3 17 for like $700 and start playing.
you may even want to look used, i was browsing around and there are some nice deals to be had out there.

was just re-reading your post - they are making a Gen4 17C if im not mistaken.
if your worried about muzzle jump you may wanna look that direction.

there isnt much muzzle flip on a 17 or 19 for that matter, i have both.

Weight is similar because there is a big cut out on top of the longer slides. What you get is a longer sight radius and therefore theoretically better accuracy.

You won't need the longer sight radius if you are going with a red do though

G34. Or G17L

where does one buy a g17 c in Canada and any chance of buying c 9mm comp gun in Canada that may not be fact
Roy bout might be neat or does one have to search the USA for a semi- custom gun. Jeff

You can get lucky, I got mine off this very forum - Gen 3 17C as new...I have read that there are some new Gen 4 17C's out - best to google Glock Sales Canada or something like that. Very cool looking pistol for sure imho....get one and enjoy!

yet i have one and all i did was walk into the gun store and it was sitting right there in stock.
if your not seeing any around all one needs to do is call a LGS that carries Glock and have them order one in from the distributor.

i guess if a person didnt want to go through all the trouble of making a phone call you could always buy a G17 and than send it to Dlask and have them machine the slide for ya and the barrel.
kind of a after market G17C

part number 34005 with 2 ports seem to have the ports back far enough you would have to machine the top of the side, is this correct, I was hoping to find one where it would stick out far enough to work without machining the top of the slide,

had a lead on the 34L but the 4 ports seem to indicate that slide would have to be machined as well,

got all excited at another pistol but now unsure of the storm lake barrels,

any thoughts on which barrel will work with a factory glock,

Jeff

You can buy a G17 and then buy an aftermarket ported barrel (Storm Lake has one) just in case you regret buying a 17C. From what I heard not everyone like the 17C.

If you really want a 17C I think leverarms.com has one right now.

I think that will fit the Glock17 no? I have it on my 17 and the 2 ports still out of the slide. I asked Storm Lake directly and they confirmed that this barrel runs on the regular G17 no problem without any mod (as listed on the package). Don't think you need to cut the slide here. I just received this last week so I never got to test it until at least this Saturday. Will let you know how it goes.

maybe you could start another thread as I would like to hear how it went and now you like your optic sight, which one and how much and how did it work,

thinking of doing exactly what you have in a 17 mos soon as I ordered the barrel today and am looking for a 17 gen 4 mos and have asked for pricing on the guys I ordered the barrel from

you got me thinking about a UM3 mount where can we get them in Canada

and this might be as good as the glock mounting system?

Jeff

The best is to order it from UM3 directly (yes they ship to Canada they confirmed me) since you can pick diff color and etc. We missed their Black Friday sales which is everything 15% or 20% off. I would probably try out their holster package too. I tried to look for the UM3 in Canada as well but haven't found it anywhere yet. So if anyone knows where to buy one in Canada I would like to know too.

My sight is not a red dot but it is something called the See All Sight. This is a pistol version which they ship with a dovetail part and you can replace your back sight with it and mount their sight on it. It is more like an enlarged iron sight with night sight capability. I tested it last week at my range I love it and gave me much better aim but my friend who tried it said he can't aim properly with it. It takes some time getting used to for sure and it is not for everyone as I checked comments on it. I works for me much better than the OEM sight though.

You might also wanna check out www.sight-mount.com (yes these guys ships to Canada with an extra $7.5USD shipping and handling). They offer a unique weaver rail mount using the back plate. I wouldn't mind giving them a try for another Glock setup and compare which is better. But so far I am still loving the See All Sight.

Yeah will totally give that ported barrel a review! Hope I can get some range time this weekend... ^_^
