Ok so I got that itch to buy a new gun. This will be the only pistol I will have. I used to own a 1911 .45 but I sold it recently. Im really diggin' those glocks, damm ###y.... On the other hand those XD's aren't so bad either. What do you think?

Neither... M&P... :D

I agree. I know you didn't specifically ask about the M&P, but you would be doing yourself a great disservice by not comparing it to the other two polymer pistols you are looking at.

Now, that being said, they are all very good pistols and all enjoy great reputations. So yeah, pick the one that feels "right" in your hand and you will be very happy. You can't go wrong with any of them...

If we keep it to Glock and XD, I would go with the Glock for more accessories and much easier to get factory parts. Plus there seems to be a Glock armourer around the corner from most people, not that you need one for repairs, but if you want to make modifications. FN Sports, the distributor for XD in Canada, can be difficult to deal with.

Aside from fitting your hand you might want to look at what you are going to use the pistol for. For IPSC Production or IDPA, if competition is your game a steel gun might be a better choice. Either of the two mentioned plus the M&P would be the pistols I would look at IF I were going polymer. I should also say I own a M&P and am very happy with it. Grip is so much better than the Glock...in my hands.

Forget the top shooters guns and what they shoot. The top shooters would beat 99% of the shooters with box stock untouched Norincos in just about any iteration offered. They shoot what their sponsors pay them to shoot for the most part.

Good article here on chosing a gun. applies to IPSC as well.

Aaaaah... but at least you can get a nice AA .22LR conversion kit for the G17. That said, 2 calibers... one pistol... one registration certificate and the Glock has proven its self reliable.

Hmmm.... 200 - 300 rounds of .22lr then cap off 25 rounds of 9mm just to bring the muscle memory back and you've had a fun day at the range.

Go Glock!!

what! it comes with two calibres they dont mention that anywhere

It's a conversion kit... google and youtube Advantage Arms. Cost about $399 for the kit. But aleast it's not another registration you have do. As mentioned earlier, 2 cals, 1 pistol, 1 reg #.

Hi there.. I would advise you NOT to buy an XD. I have had no end of problems with mine. First when i got it out of the box... it shot low and to the left about a foot at 25 yds. I called the company i bought it from and they wanted me to ship it back but due to time constrains i just took it to a gunsmith. He adjusted the sights and said the barrel needed to be recrowned. NOW it shoots ok.. but it hates ammo that is short for COL. If i shoot anything that is 1.158 or below i cant hit the broard side of a barn. Fixed that problem by reloading..

I did shoot off an email to the company... Springfield... when initially had this problem but never ever got even an acknowledgement from them that i sent an email, never mind an explanation. This was my first large caliber pistol and i make the mistake of attaching myself to the things i purchase so i dont want to sell it...purchased a match stormlake barrel thats coming in a few weeks.. hope that solves the accuracy problem... but i dont think the quality is there in the XD. I would go GLOCK if i had to do it again!!

I bought an XD 9mm recently; it's a beautiful gun and so far I've had no problems with it.

The XD usually comes packaged with accessories (the "gear" system).

I own a glock and it's great, but not especially accurate so I'm gonna buy a CZ Shadow, it's a very nice gun and I would take a look at it if I were you.
