As the title says. I have a new Glock 17 and so far I have not had to good of luck with it. It will fail to feed or "stove pipe" on me almost once every 10 shots. Any thoughts or tips?

Are you "limp wristing" it when you are shooting it?

NAA.

I dont think I am limp wristing it when I shoot but thats not to say that I dont. I have been given instruction on how to properly grip it from other shooters and as far as I can tell I lock my wrist, have a high grip, both thumbs pointing at the target.... everything I have been told to do and I still have failure to feed.

Yes I cleaned it when I bought it. Im using 124g round nose, 3.8 grains of Titegroup, C.O.L>. 1.114. I have tried it with 3.9 and 4.0 grains with the same results.

What ammo are you using? Did you clean the gun when you got it?

Ammo. Could very well be the problem. If not then have some one else try the gun. If the problem persists, contact the retailer you bought the firearm from and go from there.

edit.

Try factory ammo?

For the second time... You are having a failure to eject, the round has been discharged so it is obviously not a failure to feed.

It may sounds obvious and may not be the problem, but a buddy of mine had Failure to ejects and failure to feeds from not having each cartridge slid all the way to the back of the mag. When loading with the speed loader sometimes he'd push the previous round forward a bit when trying to slide the next back. Once I pointed it out to him, he never had a problem since..

It is a failure to feed not a failure to eject. The spent casing is ejected and the next round is failing to feed into the chamber. My wording might be wrong?. As for the mags, I always tap them before. Im going to try some factory ammo this week and possibly get someone else to try it out.

If the case "stove-pipes" another round obviously cannot feed properly. You now say the case ejects, I think you are very confused about various terms. So in short, no.

I don't mean to sound rude, if you can clearly explain what happens as soon as you pull the trigger then perhaps we can clear up your problem for you. Since you are using reloads I am inclined to blame the load, though it is really hard to say. My experience with 9mm was brief as I found it quite boring.

what happens to the slide? does the slide stay back or does it slide forward but not grab a fresh round? are your thumbs maybe pushing up on the slide lever and locking it open inadvertently? or are you maybe (again inadvertently) hitting the mag release and letting it drop down a bit?

I would have to ask if your rubbing your thumbs along the slide, i was haveing this problem with my g17 and a couple a good pointers from another shooter was just that i was rubbing my thumbs on the slide, resulting in stove pipes and failer to feed. one i traing my self to correct this i have never had a problem since

unload!. take your slide off. lift up on the slide release lever. you should feel some tension downward. If you don't, its the slide release lever spring. Also, it could be the spring not seated properly under the smaller pin.

With the slide back on. Insert unloaded mag. You should be able to pull back to release it without using the lever.

You may want to replace that slide release lever, (get extended one) i had the same problem, it would not feed every 5th or 10th and stay open. New one on the way.

like other people have posted already, get a firm grip on the gun and try not to limp wrist it. if that does not do any good, try factory ammo. Same thing happened to me with my walther p99 9mm, was using BDX reloads and did NOT like it. 1 out of every 3 shots fired ended up as a stove pipe.

After trying factory ammo, no problems! I also tried my own reloads and the gun functioned properly, but the BDX did not work well in that particular gun. no problems with the rest of my guns.

let us know how it goes!

I'm going to strip it, clean it, lube it, check the slide release lever. Going to try and get to the range tomorrow or thurs and try to focus on all the points and tips everyone has given me and come back with a range report. Thanks to everyone.
