Glock 17 g 4 sights upgrade

Ameriglow Hackathorn set from Brownells.

Same orange Trijicon front sight blade as used in the Trijicon HDs with plain serrated rear sight.
Nearly half the cost of the trijicon set, and arguably more practical.

Do up all of your Glocks and use the savings to buy a proper rear sight pusher and front sight socket wrench.

I use these as well, great sights.

with the proper weighed hammer (for gunsmithing) and the proper nylon punch, switching the sights is not only easy but is also how it is done in the rest of the 99.9% guns that have no sight pusher.
The sight pusher is another Glock accessory sold for newbies. It really helps if you do not have the vise, nor the hammer, nor the punches. However, you will investing more than $150 on a proper sight pusher that is only good for 1 gun.
Learn how to push a sight properly with tools, and now you can do it in any gun.

Speaking from experience, not out of my a$$.

Here is a link of a video, of the one an only Dave Dawson from Dawson Precision (you probably heard of his sights systems):

His sights and Warren tactical are the only ones that I thought were really good value as I have no use, whatsoever, for night sights.

Just like cooking shows, they always make it look so easy on video. ;)

I have access to 2 gunsmiths and both have sight pushers.

Please don't do this. You'll just end up smashing your sight & slide with the hammer.

You don't know what you're talking about. I have ZER0 mechanical aptitude, can you tell I did them myself? It really is as simple as the video indicates. Like I said, stupid simple.

P.S. If your "gunsmiths" use a sight pusher I'd strongly suggest looking for a real smith, lol.

Those Warren Tactical sights practically push on with a finger into the dovetail and the pressure to keep them on your slide is set with the set screw. By far the easiest sights I've ever installed on a pistol.
Try a set of stubborn sights like sig, CZ or H&K. After you beat the sh!t out of that first nylon tip, bend that punch, or mangle that sight you may be looking to invest in a rear sight pusher - or not - ymmv. lol.

I've used both a sight pusher and punches. Punches can work even for stubborn sights but you always run the risk of mangling tools and/or the sights or firearm. Sight pushers are not unique to Glock - they are available for pretty much any handgun out there with universal models fitting numerous handguns with adapters. It isn't about speaking out one's a$$, it is about working smarter with proper tools for the job.

I love my new thinner Trij HDs with the thinner post, I have a set of each now. I put the thin ones on the 17 as it's the "comp" gun and the thicker set on the 19 as it's the "apocalypse" gun

Push on with a finger? Yeah right. Have you ever install them yourself? I had to file the sight for proper fit and forcibly hammer them into place. The set screw's on there for show, it does absolutely nothing.

If you file the sight for proper fit you shouldn't have to mangle anything. Forcibly hammer? Yes. Mangle? No.

Right and the proper tools for the job are a vise, punch, and hammer.

Please explain how a sight pusher is either incorrect or inferior to brute force and ignorance? Can you centre rear sight within 0.003" of an inch with a punch?

lmao, I guess Dave Dawson's ignorant? What does he know....

Uhhh yep, not the easiest or smartest way to install sights. Can YOU explain why a sight pusher is either incorrect or inferior to a hammer and a punch? I don't care what someone else does I want to hear/see proof that a sight pusher is somehow the wrong method or inferior.

I would say that a nylon/brass punch is fairly safe on anything that doesn't have tritium in it. You'll have to be far more careful using a punch, however the nylon/brass punch is not going to hurt the sight or your slide. If it has tritium I'd highly recommend using a sight pusher the impact from a punch and hammer we increase the chances of breaking the tritium vial.

So no one can explain why a sight pusher is the incorrect tool or inferior to a hammer and a punch??? Yeah I thought so...

Trijicon clearly state that you shouldn't be using a punch to install their tritium sight. Nobody care what method you use to install your fiber optic sight.

People rave over the Trijicon HD night sights, but I wasn't a big fan of them. I've chosen to install Amerigo CAP sights on my new G19, as co designed by Dave Spaulding.

Sight pushers are absolutely recommended, but it's important not to force sights. Stone or file them a bit if you have to for a frim and secure fit. I've used punches before and had a hell of a time, pushers are definitely recommended to not mar up or damage sights, especially those with tritium viles.

I've not seen the new thinner ones. I have the originals and didn't' mind them, but thought there are better options. Even though I was using the high viz yellow front sight it was hard for my eyes to pick up and in dimmer light. Sound very odd, but it just didn't stand out enough for me.

Trijicon HDXR's are the cat's meow. I enjoy my new ones more than my old standard HD's; the thinner front post is really nice.
