Glock 17 Gen 4 vs Smith and Wesson M&P M2.0

They are vastly different in hand, especially if using the small back strap on the M&P. I wasn't able to deal with Gen 3 Glock, but Gen 4 no backstaps worked well for me. I have an SR9 and don't think the Ruger American or 9E were improvements at all. SR9 is a great pistol.
They're virtually identical in size (girth, width, lop etc.). If size is a concern and the OP wanted to stay with a double stack polymer the Ruger 9E/SR9 would be the best choice. The Ruger 9E is a great handgun. I just bought my second 9E from IRG's for $540 CAD all in. When in comes to price/value the 9E cannot be beat IMO.

I stand by what I've said having owned both. In hand they are very different, this along with the grip differences were enough for the TW National Police too ;p
Small hands...choose an M&P??....my Glock 17 Gen 3 (non adjustable grip) fits my 5'3" wife's hand PerFectly....and the Glock 19 is slightly smaller yet....so never having handled an M&P as discussed in this thread - are they Even smaller in the grip area...than these two Glock's.....?

Anyone pose a side by side picture....?

The Ruger 9E isn't an improvement, it's a cheaper version of the SR9. The frame and all its parts, including the trigger, are identical to the SR9. Ruger saved some money on the 9E's slide (less machining) but they're basically the same handgun.

What's the confusion? Is it that the OP didn't even mention a shadow therefore it isn't relevant? Or is it the shadows are harder to find part?

To the OP, you really should try them both then decide. Both are reliable, cheap, well supported, and accurate enough for most purposes. Of the two I prefer the Glock.

Many see the removal of the mag disconnect and loaded chamber flag as improvements, I don't and that is what I was referring to.

I guess you missed where I said they're virtually identical?

Grip-measurements.jpg

This is very misleading. While the measurements are similar, the shape of the grip is not. The M&P has a much rounder profile, so if you measure the circumference of the grip, you will see the the M&P is smaller. 1/4" in the LOP is also fairly significant.

OP, if you've had hands on for both, what are your thoughts?

Haven't had time to get to the range this week, works been crazy. Hope to get out next week and try several options to see what feels best. I really appreciate everyone's input. Thanks!

HHHHHHHHHHHHHH???

See how silly it is when you only quote part of the msg.

Had you quote the entire msg you would have realize the missed part talk about asking nicely to try someone's Glock which are way more abundant at the range than Shadows.

Hopefully folks in Toronto are as friendly as ones in PoCo as I never had any trouble asking nicely to try their firearms provide you supply your own factory ammo.

Always Glocks around, M&P lesser so, lot less Shadows around where I shoot.

Exactly. Can't just look at the numbers because obviously the shape of the grips are different.

Glock over M&P. Don't own a 2.0 own a regular but based on M&P design using roll pins over solid pins alone it will never be a true warpig. The grip is a lot nicer tho. Trigger is pretty bunk. If you shoot a glock and someone hands you an M&P your grouping will shift due to trigger alone. Glocks wear in real nice also whereas my M&P still hasn't even after 1k rounds. Don't own a 17 probably never will unless it's threaded and compensated. Just don't like the look of it. My next glock will be a 34. Currently own 19 and 21. Gen 4s help with the grip but it still won't be as nice as an M&P. Personally absolute comfort comes after absolute versatility and longevity/reliability which Glock wins every time. If you like to take your guns down completely and give them a good clean M&P is a chore whereas the glock is designed to be done in the field with a rock and pointy object like a nail. I only purchased M&Ps for the women in my life and they have shifted towards glock due to the trigger weight. I won't spend 200-300 bucks for a trigger on a 550 dollar gun. I will be selling or gifting my M&Ps in the future (9&22). My 2 cents towards the bill.

oh no, this is so tough, wich one should I buy. A pistol that has been in the market for more than 30 years and it has been a proven platform accepted by thousands of LEO, or a new gun that has less than 15 years in the market, and it is nothing but a over hyped piece of junk?
It is sooo sooo tough.
