GlOCK 17 GEN3 VS GEN4

This is a good read on the Glock Gen's, best article I could find on the subject anyways.

I prefer Gen 4's. Honestly, only because it's written on the slide. I don't use the back straps and don't mind the Gen 3 grip texture or mag release.

I'd give a slight advantage to the gen 4, based on the slightly more textured surface, and I do use the beaver tail back straps on my gen 4 17. That being said, I'm not more partial to any one of them, hell I'd still happily shoot my gen 2 if I hadn't sold it.

Pretty much this. The price difference is covered by the texture, availability of backstraps and the extra mag. I'm not saying to buy a gen4 because of those features, but unlike a lot of other things you aren't just being gouged because it's the "latest and greatest"

The extended mag release of the Gen 4 makes more of a difference that I thought it would. I like the grip texture more than Gen 3, too (although the RTF2 texture is also a favourite). I've not shot a Gen 3 vs. Gen 4 side-by-side so I can't vouch 100% for the recoil-reduction characteristics but subjectively, my Gen 4 G22 feels like it's more pleasant to shoot than my Gen 3.

I wish my Gen 3 had a better mag release and a slightly slimmer grip. Both things offered on the Gen 4. If I were to replace it I'd definitely get a Gen 4.

The grips on the Gen 4 are not slimmer, the circumference is reduced by a whopping 2mm between sizes. The naked frame has a 2mm shorter circumference than a stock gen 3, the small M backstrap is the same as a stock gen 3 and the L backstrap is 2mm larger in circumference. This translates into a shorter or longer LOP but not by much.

thanks everybody, good feedback.
think im going to go with the gen4, i also agree about the mag release, aswell as the grip texture

cheers

If you like a bigger mag release maybe you should take a look at the new G17 gen 4 special edition.

The GLOCK 17 Gen4 Special Edition adds several enhanced features to the world's most popular pistol, including front cocking serrations, steel sights, Extended Slide Stop Lever and Extended Magazine Catch.

OK

I very much prefer the naked grip of the Gen4. The difference is not allot, but if you have shorter fingers, the difference is substantial. The texture is slightly better on the Gen4 as well. Otherwise I am happy with either. I like the smaller grip so much, I replaced my Gen3 G17, G19, & G34, with Gen4 for all of them.

I have Glock extended mag release and slide release on all of them, and my G26. Again, not a huge difference, just a little easier to use without adjusting my grip too much.

I like gen 2 and gen 4, I do not care for gen 3 at all. Everything they changed from gen3 to gen4 is an improvement period.

9000th post woot!

Got my Glock today! Have not had a chance to shoot it yet. First dry fire, and I thought the trigger was broke, since it stays locked back, until you rack the slide. Ya I'm a Glock amateur. Love the gun! Gonna hit the range soon! Lol. Just realized this isn't my "First Glock" thread. Still Glock related, though.
