Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone had a heads up on any retailers that might still have basic Gen3 Glock 17s in stock.

Or, alternatively give me the reasons why I should buy a Gen4. A friend who is a firearms instructor, ISPC shooter and Glock Armorer has recommended the Gen3 over the Gen4, but it doesn’t look like there are too many left out there.

Thanks!

No reason not to buy the Gen 4. All the initial issues have been fixed with the release of new RSA's, ejectors and extractors. Personally I like the Gen 4 over the Gen 3.

I should add that I previously used a glock 22 gen 3 for work and was very happy with it too. There were a few issues with recoil springs on early gen 4 models, so glock gave free replacements to owners. I have one of those early ones and have never had an issue with the original RSA. It was most likely people using underpowered reloads or limp wristing the gun that led to the majority of problems.

The gen 4 have different back straps, so you can fit them better for you hand. I'm not sure if the gen 4 with the smallest back strap is smaller then the gen 3 which may be important for people with smaller hands. Also if you want to add a glock stock or other accessories gen 3 have lots of options. I bought the stock when I bought mine because it was my first handgun and I wasn't sure if it was sighted in or not. With the stock and foregrip I determined that, when I had it sighted in, my problem was my grip and trigger pull that were causing my accuracy problems.

I much prefer gen4 models over gen3. Better grip texture and mag release button, not to mention grip is much more comfortable (for me at least).

It seems nobody does right now. Makes your choice pretty easy.
