Glock 17 gen4 vs M&P9

Best thing to do is find some to shoot and see which you like the best. I own an m&p9 and have shot a couple Glocks, I like both actually.

Glock has a better trigger out of the box. M&p has nicer ergonomics and ambi controls. Both are reliable, both are accurate. I will buy a glock at some point just to have one, they're both nice to shoot and shoot well.

Handle everything that is in the mix, Before I purchased my gen 4 model 17 I handled anything they had at P&D in my price range, The PPQ felt to small. Nothing wrong with the m&p just glock fit my hand better.
Then at the range one day I tried out someone else's 17 with a different trigger.... next day one was on the way from USA

I sold my glock 17 g4 after i purchased the m&p core. I put in ram and not much difference. At first i was very disappointed with the m&p because of the trigger. I was used to the glock reset, but i am over that and enjoy shooting the m&p

Glock is better then the M&P overall if you compare stock models. But if you plan on getting the M&P a few parts installed from APEX.... Then the M&P will become way better then a glock IMO. I like the grip better anyway.

Not much difference if you're going to stand at a bench and pull the trigger. If you're going to run and gun, the M&P reloads faster and is easier to shoot quickly AND accurately. The M&P mags have a large taper, and the pistol has a grip/mag well with a larger and less cluttered opening, if you blow a reload with an M&P something is terribly wrong with you. The M&P shoots very softly and once you learn to grip it properly that allows fast, accurate follow ups. FWIW I sold my last 2 Glocks to Misanthropist - different strokes.

Don't let anyone tell you which way. you have to try yourself. mostly the difference is in the feelings on the grips. then m&p's out of box trigger is a little gritty, but not bad as some said.
I have both mp40 & g22, and got 9mm barrels for both. To me, they are the same and I want to be good with both. I did upgrade my M&P with Apex trigger later on which did have great improvement on the trigger pull.

Hello, i had owned and shot a gen1 Glock 17 back in the 90's and like it a lot more than Beretta 92.
Never shoot M&P yet, currently shooting a 1911 and S&W revolver for IDPA and Speed Steel.
Want to pick up a second 9mm and would like to get some input on the M&P9 vs Glock 17 gen4 comparison.(trigger pull, recoil, feel in the hand,reliability...etc)
Thank you in advance

x2 on the Apex RAM. Waste of money. The only way to get a better reset is with the new Gen 3 slide stop and a "H" marked trigger bar.

I hated the way glocks feel. I bought an m&p. Shot it for a couple of years, then bought a glock, well. I don't know why.

Now, I think I shoot the glock better 2 handed, but I definitely shoot the m&p better with one hand. The glock doesn't really fit one handed but gives better purchase with 2. I think that the glock grip angle works a little better with outstretched hands too.

After all is said and done, I like both ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Disclaimer... Although I think the CZ shadow is a spectacular gun, I just can't seem to shoot it well when shooting fast, and prefer the tupperware guns for IDPA/ODPL

M&P! If you are a little handy with a stone and polish, you can do the Burwell trigger job.Makes it crisp with close to no over travel and brought mine down to 3.9lbs...no parts involved, just 2 hrs of my time. I went this route after I've seen the price tag on Apex parts in Canada. How to? Battle Beaver has a good vid on youtube about it.

Don't limit yourself. There's lots of good options for a striker fired 9mm. Glock and S&W are good but definitely not the best at anything.

I have an M&P9 and Glock 22 (very similar to G17). I like the ergonomics of the S&W way more. I like the sights on the Glock much more. As stated before - Glock is square.
Both I find way less 'complicated' than Berettas or Sigs. I have no experience with CZ other than shooting one that belongs to a friend.
Nothing seals the deal better than live shooting comparison in my opinion. Try 'em all, you might even get a Norinco ;-) lol

I think i've owned all the makes and models in 9mm out there at one point or another (minus FN, Browning and Walther). I've had 6 Glocks and used the M&P for a duty gun. I like the M&P. Metal magazines, better price, smaller grip, beavertail, overall smaller gun, better mag changes, trigger I didn't notice a major difference on. I always make 2 decisions when it comes to guns, price bracket and use. Since I'd put both guns into the same use category (ie non competitive, at least in comparison to my Tanfoglio) than the better bang for the buck wins, that's the M&P.
I believe in 2016 they're doing the IOP program as well.
If you're asking about the best polymer 9mm for you for a range toy/tactical purposes vs competitive shooting I think there might be better choices left. I'm not sure if you're limited to striker fired but there are also D/A S/A polymer guns which are great. I'd figure out what a budget is for this toy and than youtube all the pistols in that price bracket.

When I was getting into the game, I had Glock in mind because of the hype I guess you could say. Once in position to start buying, research showed there were many other good choices in polymer that equaled or surpassed Glock in one or more categories. As far as reliability, most polymer guns are awesome, and all factors consider, any of the guns are good enough for play or war (lol). The deciding factor for me pretty much came down to the magazines. Most agree they had the toughest and most reliable magazines on the market. The mags can be used on all smaller framed Glocks of the same calibre. Glock magazines are used for multiple PCC platforms. I knew I wanted more than 9mm gun, so versatility across different guns made Glock my obvious choice.

G17/34 & G18 mags fit all 4 of these guns.
