Hey guys,

I just got a Glock 17 with night sights. I also have a CZ SP01 which I use for IPSC. I got the Glock because for some reason I can shoot it more accurate than my CZ. So the plan is to transition over to the Glock as my main IPSC gun.

My reload is 138gr CMJ Frontier Bullets with Titegroup powder OAL is 1.110 (this load works fine from my CZ)

The first 100 rounds through the Glock I had a few FTE & FTF so adjusted my reloads they were only at 800fps (My practice loads)
Second 100 rounds came in at 950fps and cycled just fine

I use 10round factory magz
If I put a mag in with 10 rounds and rack the slide so I have 9 in the mag and 1 in the chamber the gun runs fine.

The problem is, when I put 1 round in the chamber and a full 10rnd mag behind it and pull the trigger, the second round will not feed.

Any idea why?

Thanks

If the Glock is new, maybe the mag spring is too tight? Work it in a bit, leave a mag loaded overnight, let it loosen up. I know those 10s can be tight, sometimes I have trouble seating a full mag in with a cartridge introduced into the chamber.

Your Glock is not cycling fully as the tenth round is inducing too much force on the underside of the slide as it cycles rearward.

If it is new or nearly new, do as suggested with the mags, but I would also break it in (first 1000 rounds) with full power loads to work in the recoil spring as well.

There is a chance your reloads are too light and the increased pressure on the bottom of the slide caused by a full magazine is robbing the system of energy as it recoils. Leaving the mags loaded should help. I'd say shoot factory ammo or factory spec reloads to avoid the issue.

some people like to use pinned 19rd round mags instead of 10 rounds. spring is loser. lot easier to load also. something to lookfor if you buy a bunch of mags for ipsc. Canam had some new ones couple months ago. don't know if any left.

Try the Lee carbide factory crimp die if you want to continue to use 10rnd mags. The added tiny bit of case "swell" from the reloaded bullet results in just that much less room in the mag when loaded to 10. The spring & follower are bottomed out & when seated against a closed slide adds more pressure. This can cause your condition. You may also notice it's tougher to fully seat a full mag w/slide closed.

I had a similar problem with a G17. I wasn't seating the mag all the way in and it never would pick up the first round. On a fast mag change it's impossible to hear but on a normal mag change you should hear the mag click into place. I'm not sure if that will help you but it's something to watch for. Compared to my 1911's, I really have to slam the mag hard to seat properly.

Thats a good idea with the mags, I have well over 2000 rds through my G22 and my mag springs are still very tight (5 mags). I'll start leaving the mags full. Thanks for the question and the tips!

I've never had that problem with my 17 and 10rd mags.

As said, try loading the mags and leaving them for 1 month. If you want to go shooting, just load them back up.

My 9mm load is 3.9gr Unique under a Frontier 147gr CMJ.

As suggested try increasing the pressure in your reloads, or use factory, and keep mags loaded?. My OAL was 29.5 in the oem barrel, but 27.5 in the stainless match barrel. I found that I would get stovepipe or ftf if the oal was too long.
