Glock 17 Maintenance

Hi, I just got my first firearm, a Glock 17 and have been a little confused on how to clean/lube it. I picked up Otis Micro Kit 9mm and was wondering if this is everything I need to sufficiently clean/lube it? Should I lube it before I go up to the range to shoot?

GLOCK 17 maintenance 101: Load 10 rounds in to magazine, insert magazine into pistol, aim pistol in safe direction, pull trigger ten times, repeat 5000 times.

But seriously, if you follow the little diagram above its about all you need.
 
Take it apart when its new. Take a mental picture of what "clean" looks like. After a range session clean your pistol to resemble the "like new" mental image you have stored in your head from when you got it. Lube according to the diagram above. Shoot, clean, lube, repeat as necessary.

do not over lube your glock. it only needs a couple of drops on the indicated parts listed in the diagram in the above post.
 
Is it a new one? The new one I bought years ago had, from the factory, a copper colored compound on the wearpoints . If yours has the same, you shouldn't clean that off during your first 100 or so rounds. It's supposed to be some sort of a metal treatment...or so I was told. To start with I would just make sure that the bore is free and forget about any lube right now. I cleaned and lubed mine after the first couple hundred and then I had well over 5000 rounds before I cleaned it again.

All that compound is, is copper anti-sieze compound.
 
Glocks do not need much lube at all. unlike my CZ which likes a lot of lube.

Also, I would only use plated or jacketed bullets in the stock Glock barrel.
 
Maintenance? Glock? Pfhhh
After a few thou, clean out the striker channel, it may get carbon build up and prevent the firing pin to do full strike. and just wipe down with some clp on everything yousee. i don't lube just wipedown.
