want to buy a glock but need peoples opinions on the differences between the two. i know the g19 is shorter but what else? and is it restricted or prohibited because of the barrel being 102mm?

what do you think?

I run what's colloquially known as a G17k...that is a 17 cut down to a 19 grip.

You take a cheap used gen3 glock and chop the grip down, smooth out the magwell a bit, and you have all the upsides of both the 17 and the 19.

Ideally, you find someone else who already cut their G17 as resale value plummets. All I had to do was smooth the magwell transition on mine. I also cleaned up the butt a little.

Now I have the sight radius of a G17 on a gun that feels and conceals like a 19. And I paid very little for it. A great approach to a cheap user pistol IMO.

You should handle them both. You'll know immediately which of the two suit you best.

N.B.: IPSC Production Division specifically excludes any firearm with an aftermarket barrel, so - if your G19 barrel is not made by Glock - you would have to shoot in either Standard or Open. <http://www.ipsc.org/rules/>

Despite that, I still strongly prefer the G19.

I strongly disagree ;)

Glock 34

Get Glock 34, it is 9mm with many worthy upgrades.

Better trigger, slide lock, mag release, adjustable sights... longer slide and sight radius.

What's not to like?

Why would someone want a G19 over a G17 if they can't conceal carry?

You really have to handle both the full-size (17, 22, 31, 34, 35) frame and the "compact" (19, 23, 32) frame. It might be the larger, it might be the smaller, but - immediately - you'll know which you prefer.

Have never been a huge fan of Glocks but acquired a minty G17 gen3 recently and it is def growing on me. Mine is a compensated version and have to say the big V flame out the ports is a wee bit distracting to say the least even if it looks kinda cool. I replaced the barrel with an extended threaded one and like that a lot better.
