Glock 17 Poor quality barrel finish. Worse customer service.

Yep - my G17 gen 5 had those barrel rings after I shot my first magazine... and it worked fine for the thousands after that.

I think you should shoot it more and give it some real wear!

So this is a process difference from Austria to the US. Processes that use cyanide and arsenic cause OHSA folks in the US to have tantrums. Not such a big issue in the EU if properly handled. Thank you to all who have chimed in.

I think we are seeing the hard surface coating is inferior on the US made glocks.

Relax its all good / I have a Glock 17M Austrian made work pistol that has hit roughly 18000rds and it’s just regular wear

I have a 17 gen 5 as well. Had some wear on the barrel after the first range trip. And 14000 rounds later it still shoots great. Also getting a little bit of holster wear on the slide.

gen 3 barrels would have the finish wear off like yours.
Gen 4 were nearly indestructible unless you didn't oil the gun, and even then it would take thousands of rounds to wear it off.

This looks like they went back to Gen3 type finish.

either way...
It is a glock. Not a collectible.

my understanding is that the process changed with the times, not location. I was reading in to Glock's production recently and they are anal to an incredible degree to make sure everything is consistent and the same as the Austrian guns. all the same tooling, process and materials in theory... and i believe the newer Austrian guns use the newer finish.

My sig probably has way more wear at that round count. I would worry if you could feel a groove..

Looks normal to me. My Bersa Thunder 9 pro has way more wear on the exterior of the barrel (only about 1000 rounds), but its only surface wear does not affect performance or accuracy whatsoever. Keep it lubed and don't run it bone dry that's my advice.

whatever it is, its a glock, cheap and good, now go shoot it man!!!

Just an update to this. After receiving a call from ISG 2 Friday’s ago with a promise of a call back Monday latest, I am back to waiting. It would be nice if the retailer followed up on commitments and just plain nice for Glock to provide some measure of customer service even if it is just to tell me to piss off. No response equals non returning customer.

You're not receiving a response because you're being unreasonable.

Good luck!

To expect a response to a question is unreasonable? To expect someone to do what they say is unreasonable? Your attitude is a huge part of the reason we have with poor customer service in Canada when compared with the US.

You can't provide customer service to those unwilling to listen. Take this thread for example, how many experienced shooters have to tell you that the wear is normal before you accept that reality? Just shoot the !@#$% thing!

P.S. Good luck getting ANY meaningful customer service in Canada when it comes to firearms, we do not matter (another reality you'll soon come to accept).

I concur. :)

One example of an experienced shooter is Clobbersaurus. He's a super talented shooter, who can kick so many of our asses with his Glock, in a match setting. LISTEN TO HIM!

I see that I am dealing with the glock fan boys, so nothing will change your minds.

After spending over $900 on the pistol in question it would be nice to hear from the principles rather than the pions.
