Seriously considering one of these for IDPA. Shot one... loved it, but have VERY limited exposure to the M17.
My question is :
I have been told that the unsupported chamber (and I dont know exactly what that means) make reloading the brass from a M17 difficult if not impossible due to bulges in the spent case.
a little education would be appreciated.

Usually they're talking about Glocks in .40 caliber when they talk about unsupported chambers.
What it does is cause the bottom of the case near the case head to swell enough that it won't go into a case gauge or some chambers. The only fix for it is to have the brass roll-sized which is not something most reloaders have laying around.

The G17 (9mm) has no chamber support issues, it's well supported, the lesser pressures reduce the stress on the webbing.

It ressembles the S&W 4004 pic above.

The G22 (.40) is move sensitive to KB's in reloads because of the lack of support which could cause a burst if the casing is weak. Some after market barrels offer a full support for the discriminating user.

I am not sure about the 9mm conversion in a G22, never heard of that one.

Right. It's weird but true. One forum post says, "Federal and KKM (Glockmeister even sells the KKM) make _special_ 40 to 9mm conversion barrel. There is a notice pertaining to this conversion barrel saying it should only be used for 'training purposes.' The reason for the notice is because the stock extractor/ejector, when extracting 9mm, has a tendency to eject towards the shooter.

If you're wearing glasses while target shooting, in the event this happens, you're protected. That notices basically says, don't trust your life with this conversion unless you change out the extractor/ejector.

Someone over at glocktalk actually organized a group purchase of 9mm Federal Conversion barrels for ~ $65 a piece with the group rate--Normally $90."

Sorry, no link.

As I said, I'm just starting to study Glocks. Interesting stuff. The amount of accessories for Glocks and 1911's boggles my mind. Good thing I like to keep things stock or I'd be bankrupt.

Why is it that this "Glock - unsupported chamber issue" only seems to show up on CGN?

Everyone else seems to have settled this a LONNGGGGG time ago, except of course, for us here on CGN.

It's a dead issue.
