Im want to buy my first glock 17 , the main reason is for the aftermarket support (barrel , sight , trigger)
The problem is the gen 5 do not share the same parts as the gen 4

Wich one should i buy as my first glock ?

One more thing , im left handed , so the ambi slide release is a good point from the gen 5 haha

If you're lefty, then 5. Unless you plan on customizing your Glock
I left mine stock and I love it. Either way, I'm sure aftermarket goodies will be available for Gen 5 shortly

The cutout at the frontstrap of the Gen 5 seems to bother some people too. If you don't mind finger grooves and just powerstroke your reloads, then Gen 4 might be a better choice.

On a Gen 4 or older, you could always install a left hand safety, but the ambi function works great in 2 ways: You can use a thumb standard release or if your hand / thumb gets injured, use your index finger to release. Had a Springfield XDM with that feature, loved it. The Gen 5 sounds interesting.....

I'm lefty too, the slide release is not a problem to me, I always use left index finger or right hand to release the slide.

If you dont mind used one, Gen3 is better than Gen4.

btw, You missed a great deal which price was only $699 last Saturday in Reliable Gun.

Buy the newest generation aka, the Glock 5.
It has a better barrel, better grip surface, the bilateral slide release is a nice feature too. As a Glock fanboy, the Gen5 would be my go-to carry gun, with a suitable self defence factory 9mm round.
I'd own a G43 if the stupid Liberal jerk-offs wouldn't prohibit them...

I would go Gen 3 with the "frying pan " finish or Gen 5 with the new finish, Would avoid Gen 4's unless you can find one with the same "frying pan" finish as a Gen 3. They are around, I had one.

Austrian Gen3/4 Glocks have tenifer finish because the chemical used for the treatment is banned in the US.

Tenifer is the underlying metal treatment and is not a surface finish. The current process was referred to as "nitration". It was described as being similar to Tenifer, but using gases rather than chemicals to regulate the process, thereby providing a more consistent result.

This has nothing to do with the exterior finish, which itself has undergone several tweaks or changes over the years. The underlying metal treatment has no correlation to the finish you see.

Honestly a Glock is a Glock. Gen 3,4,5 get the one that feels best your hand and one you can get the best deal on. :)

The Gen 5 has a completely different trigger group, and a different slide. If you like Glocks than the Gen 5 would be the choice to get.

Take Care

I love my gen 4 Glock 17 it's a keeper esp with Warren Tactical sights. Haven't had a chance to play with gen 5 but don't feel the need to upgrade at all. Personally i hate the feel of gen 3...
