Hey all,

On my 3rd gen glock 17 with metal (fixed) night sights, I swear the back of the front sight is canted off to the right (as if it was overtightened). I have had the opinions of others agree (just by looking at it).

I realize that the mount is slotted, but wondering if somethingcould be damaged. My shots are off to the the left (yes I realize most new shooters have this problem), even when I try to compensate for the front sight.

I guess I am asking how robust the sight mounts are, or if I just need practice (or need to drift the rear sight?):bangHead:

Sounds like the sights could be damaged. You could contact the retailer you purchased it from and see what they can do for you or just replace the sights. As simple and robust as sights are they still break.

The front sights on Glocks have some play available to them. They can "twist a couple of degrees in each direction because of the available clearance between the slot in the slide and the width of the front sight.

On my guns, I usually change the sights anyway, but I always find that I have to Loctite them to stop them from "canting" after a few hundred or thousand rounds. I now use green Loctite (which is used for retaining bushings and bearings) to hold them tight.

The plastic original sights are split on the bottom with a plastic pin inserted between the splits to hold them in place. The steel factory sights can be either peened (permanent for the most part) or screwed in (if you see a hexagonal shape inside the slide). This screw is a special low-head hex cap screw that requires the right tool to remove it without rounding the head.
