Glock 17 vs. CZ SP-01 (9mm of course)

I know, I've searched the threads, and found a lot of bits of info. Glocks seem to have a following, but also detractors.

CZ is pretty well repsected by everyone.

Questar has decent pricing on some Glock models (i.e. 17). I am about to buy a CZ SP-01, but for a hundred bucks more.... well its a Glock.

Acutally I am not struck on Glocks, and I have smaller girlie hands.

Any advice?
 
I have been using a G17 for my Production gun for some time and am very fond of the Glocks. I purchased a SP01 last June to play with and as of yet have not changed over to it for matches. The DA trigger is challanging to get used to, but if I get around to doing a trigger job on the gun it should be much easier to work with.

You cant go wrong with either gun but I feel that new out of the box the Glock might be easier to get used to and shoot well. Now, if your not planning on competing in IPSC then the DA trigger wont be a huge factor to you and you may enjoy the CZ more.

FO for SP01 but not the G17, heavier weight=less felt recoil for SP01, accuracy is about the same I would say. But if you reload your ammo using lead bullets definitely the SP01.
 
Try the CZ SP-01 trigger in double action. You said you have small hands but I don't know if that means short fingers. I tried the CZ 75 before the SP-01 came out and could not reach the trigger comfortably in double action. After trying a whole lot of guns I went with the Glock. If you are in the same boat it will make the decision easy.
 
the standard advice is: try out both pistols and see what fits you best.

I like the way the CZ grips and it points naturally for me. I am willing to train myself around the extra difficulties a da/sa trigger works. A good trigger job makes this easier. I have also seen guns with the cz-usa competition hammer and sights and these make a great gun even better.

You may find that a glock feels right for you. A lot of people like the Glock and appreciate the reliability you get with the gun as this seems to be the number one selling factor. I think most Glock fans can admit you will never get a top notch trigger pull the way you can with a CZ or a 1911.

Of course realistically if you spend any time on this forum, you will soon be infected with the rest of us. Then the question is only, which gun to buy first!

theres a glock 22 conversion kit out there as well.
with that in mind, cant go wrong either way. It's all personal. For me it's a CZ.
 
Marlin, my suggestion for questions like this is always to try and shoot or at least handle both before you decide. It really doesn' matter what each of us say them. If the gun doesn't fit your hand or your shooting style then the "best" pistol in the world won't help. :)
 
Good advice.

What are the best guns shops in the Ottawa area, where I could fondle a few pistols?

An hour's drive outside is ok too, for a good shop.
