Glock 17 vs Springfield XD

These two are the most common plastic gun today and they both have their fans. That said they are both good. I shot them both but don't own one because not my cup of tea. But if I have to pick one I will pick the Glock 17 base on the parts are easy to get and I like the grip angle. It is not as comfort as the XD but a wrap around grip will fix every thing. Price are almost the same but If you can try them both and you can tell by yourself.

Don't buy an XD. It doesn't have the coolness factor that, say, a Beretta 92FS would have. And a glock 17 doesn't have it either.

But the glock will never break. The XD has had some problems.

The XD is cheaper, but I'd go with the Glock.

I have a G17 and I really like it and Glocks, they perform very well even if they are glamorous. I have fired Springer XDs and I have been very impressed with them. I haven't bought one as I haven't ran into one at the right price. Chuck Taylor, gun writer, torture tested a G17 and really found no fault. Chuck also tested a Springer XD and thought it might be the better of the two. What is my recommendation? Handle and shoot both, then pick the one that you like the feel of asnd shoot best. I say dont buy a XD as well. It feels like crap and shoots just the same. Gets a bit dirty and it doesn't fire at all! The glock you can just keep hammering on for thousands of rounds, the XD tho, not the same.

An XD feels like crap compared to a glock? Wow , you must have mutant hands. And as for getting dirty and not firing, well, I guess if you don't clean it every 1000 rounds or so it might, mine will run through 500 without a hitch, and thats as long as I'll let any gun go without cleaning......Granted, I've only got 5 or 6 thousand rounds through mine with out a hitch, maybe something will come up, but it just keeps getting smoother, and there is no comparison on the triggers.

Glocks feel like a brick in the hand , naturally point at the ceiling, and the triggers feel like junk. They are stone reliable, as long as you don't reload and shoot cast bullets.

Both are terrific designs.

One is wonderfully constructed, has a bulletproof finish, parts available just about everywhere, and terrific customer service.

The other is an XD.

Plus, the XD has a grip safety, and there are a fair number of people who, when gripping a grip-safetied gun properly, can't get it to go bang at all. Large skinny hands.

Every shooter on earth should own a 9mm Glock

Glock Vs Springfield

I personally own both in 9mm, both are excellent pistols. I have had one stoppage with the XD and none with the Glock. Both have had 1000's of rounds thru them. Pick which ever one fits your hand better. I personally like the G17 better simply because I shoot it more accurate then the XD. My cousin on the other hand shoots the XD better.

As for cleaning neither needs cleaning before 2500rds. Even Chuck Taylor who put his glock thru hell says it only needs to be cleaned between 2500-5000.

my 2 cents

Wow, that didn't take you long! :D
I say go with what feels good in your hand.
Both are well made by reputable manufacturers.
(I bought the Glock :) )

Really?? That is news to me. I have Glocks breaking all the time. XDs too for that matter. I don't think the failure rates are much different. However the XD locking insert incorporates the frame rails, so it can be replaced. When the glock frame rails fail, the receiver is garbage.

Buy what you like, either is a good gun. The Glock finish is more durable, I'll give you that.

redleg, as the sales volume get higher so do reports of repair. There was an incidence of a high number of repairs being made on one brand of VCR; it was because the maker produced so many. Their rate of failure was the same as for the low volume producers. I will stand by my statement that both the Springfield XD and the Glock 17 are class acts. Regards, Richard:D

Not sure what your point is here. I'm not discussing internet stories, I fix the guns on a commercial range. The Glocks do break, and unlike some folks that seem to think that Glocks are indestructable, I consider them about average in the quality gun market. However, as I said both are good guns, so I guess we are in agreement.

XD9, if you want my opinion, no question. I own the XD and have had no problems of any kind with it. Especially since 99% of the time I shoot my own lead reloads. Approx 6-7000 rounds through it.

As I have stated before on this board, I really tried to like Glock, because they have a reliable reputation, but to no avail.... IMO just a sh!tty grip angle which makes the gun just feel wrong.

But, also like others have said, they are both reliable and accurate and both are indeed fugly. shoot em both then decide.

IMO XD tactical it's huge and looks wrong (the gun was designed as a 4in) but I don't think Glock is any more reliable...

I prefer Steyr M9-A1 it's Glock 19 size and has a great trigger and since the 106mm barrel is factory it can use used in IPSC :)

redleg, there have probably been more Glocks sold in the last 15 years than any other single make of handgun and this by itself accounts for why some need repair. Regards, Richard:D

This is true if I was buying all of them. I was not. I have run a score of Glocks on the range. Many have ended up as scrap. I have run a half dozen XDs, and except for minor part replacement they are all still oeprable. I have replaced many minor parts on both types of gun.
