Glock 17 vs Springfield XD

Ooooo get the Glock!! If you want to be a sheep and get one 'cuz it's cool and in all those rap songs!

Get the XD. It's the gun that the Glock wishes it was.

Some people having been having trigger problems with XD's recently. Just to muddy the waters have you looked at SW M&P? They look to me a bit nicer than the Glock and have the frame rail insert that the XD has. Plus the option to fit 3 different backs to the grip to help your hand to fit. Still a bit early to say how good they will be, but I understand that SW had help from Steyer (I think it was?) in designing it.

Any gun will wear out, the G17, G19 are well made for the 9mm calibre and with the 3rd generation should have almost all the bugs worked out of them.

say a desert eagle or something like that, would that be aloud, insted of that pu$$y 9mm?

I fired 21,000 last year with my pu$$y Glock 17. cheaper ammo price was the main reason why a 9mm. The reason why a Glock?
1. It fit very well in my hand and i dont need to strech my fingers to push either bolt release and mag release.
2. The dang thing was built for people like me so it can be abuse real bad with no or very little maintenance.
3. Polymer dont rust (ever)
4. Mag are as tough as the gun. you can release them on concrete without worry. it wont break and no rubber pad need to protect them.
5. Extremely light weight.

This is true if I was buying all of them. I was not. I have run a score of Glocks on the range. Many have ended up as scrap. I have run a half dozen XDs, and except for minor part replacement they are all still oeprable. I have replaced many minor parts on both types of gun.

You've been running your range for quite a while, haven't you? Would you say that you've been running it for 3 times as long as the XD has been available? 5 times?

Would you say that the Glock has been part of your lineup since you opened? Would you also say the Glock is more popular than the XD amongst your customers?

I respect you, your experience, and your perspective, but I still don't think we are comparing apples to apples.

No not really. A gun generally lasts a year here. A really good gun will last 2 or 3. Glocks last a year. They see a little more use than the XDs but in the order of 25% not 300%. The XDs have all been in use for more than a year. I don't have a single Glock that has been. Of course having said that, remember that I can replace a locking insert/frame rails on an XD, whereas the Glock goes in the garbage if the rails fail. The XDs do have issues with the trigger bar spring breaking. So do the Glocks, but I have replaced them with the NY units to solve that problem.

redleg, what has been your experience with Steyr M-A1? You mentioned a while back that some spring broke and you were waiting for the new one, has the gun seen any action since?

No still waiting to get it back.

Shoot both I own the XD, it is a good gun and I have had no problems. Try and shoot both and pick what feels good and shoots good for you.

Shhot them both then try a CZ 75B. You won't regret taking a hard look at the CZ's. Redleg the CZ has to last longer than a year, if they don't let us have some idea how many rounds go through your guns in a year.

Take Care

Our club has 2 Glocks, a G17 (9mm) and a G22 (.40). The 9mm probably has about 6000-7000 per year go through it. The only problem it had is that the trigger spring broke, which is not uncommon. (Still shot though!!) The maintenance is done by volunteers, and isn't always prompt too.

My G17 has had about 5000 rounds through it since February without any problems.

I loves my Glock! :dancingbanana:

I own two Glocks (G17 and 17C) and a XD40. I have since ordered a Glock 35 and a XD45. I like tham both... but my fovorite... the XD40 Tactical.

i just ordered an m&p from TSE, some nice guy named Cory hooked me up and even didn't sell me some mag pouches that weren't a good fit for the extra mags i ordered. i'll let you guys know how it stands up against my glocks. no XD to compare it to, but with this new smith on the scene i think it's a 3 way race now.

That's funny. Just last night, near the end of my shift, some nice guy from Grande Prairie ordered an M&P and mags from me. :D
