Glock 17 vs. XD9 Tactical vs. S&W MP

Well for parts availability ans simplicity I say glock. For reliability they are all very good but I think glock would win that one to. For comfort I say they are all different and it is very dependent on personal preference and hand size but I have found that the glock seems to fit me well and points well for me. The mp and xd are good for smaller hands but again its all personal. For looks I say the glock wins, but that might start a ####storm. I think mp is ugly and xd just seems overly complicated with the grip safety. Accuracy I think will come down to a tie but all three are very good. I have shot all of them and think they are all great guns. I don't think you can argue with the prices of the glock and mp which can be found for 600 new. The xd will be more money and some may say it is worth it but I disagree. I have seen a couple issues with new outta box mp's so I chose glock. Really you can't go wrong.

I'm sure all three are great in their own way.
Out of the three I only shot the Glock17 (for the first time today). The box stock Glock fit and shot well for me.
I liked it so much I bought one! :)
Good luck in your choice.....

Funny, as far as looks go, I like the MP. But for me, simplicity and reliability are the most important things. And the price of the Glock is right, so I think that's where I'm leaning. But then I look at the pic the guy who just picked up his MP posted in his thread and well...

go to a range and try to shoot some of your choices and see how you feel/like the gun
BTW what will be yr new gun used for?
IMO plastics are good (light weight) if you'll carry on yr belt every day as LEO, other then that I'm not a big fan of a light plastic gun.
on a second valid choice look for a Beretta 92FS/M9 it's cheaper then a SIG 226 and has very good reliability/accuracy...my 2c

Wolfstack makes some good points...I'm planning on using my Glock for IDPA otherwise I'll stick to blasting my 1911 and Browning HP for regular range fun.

Shoot 'em, or at least handle them. I was sold on the Glock, but after putting a few rounds down range with one, I thought the grip was a little blocky. Didn't get a chance to shoot the M&P before I bought it, but I love the ergonomics and how it fit the hand when I held one. All the controls are right there and I can drop mags without having to change hand position.

Out of this three, XD to be the best follow by M&P. But I bought a Glock base on the parts easy to find and XD can be a problem once your gun run into trouble. M&P has a higher lemon rate than of XD and Glock when I Bought my G17. But I will also take Sig SP 2022 into account Because it is a really nice gun.

I don't have hands on with an XD. For me, of your choices, M&P is the pick. Glock is OK but found that it was like shooting a table leg. M&P has adjustable back straps for different hand sizes.

HK would be my choice but out of the 3 I would choose the M&P. I had a G34 and the comparison to a table leg is pretty accurate. The Glock trigger was terrible. But I am in the minority when it comes to Glocks.

If your near a bigger city see if theres a range that lets you rent a pistol to try out. For under a hundred bucks you can run a box of ammo through all three. I dont know which part of the country your in but if near or will be passing through Edmonton or Calgary the wild west shooting centre in edmonton or the shooting edge in calgary are both excellent stores/ranges. All three pistols are excellent choices It all comes down to personal preference and which one fits your hand the best. My choice would be the xd-9 i ve put about 2000 rds through mine with no problems. My M&P has seen about 300 rds with no issues and has an excellent trigger the best out of the three in my opinion and the interchangable backstraps are a plus. My experience with the Glock is somewhat limited but its track record speaks for itself.

I've fired off all three and the Glock 17 feels the best for me. When I was searching for a 9mm I thought about the same choices as you, but when it came down to it, it was about economics and availability of parts. Plus, I knew I would be getting a Sig 226 and needed to keep the 9mm as cheap as possible (but still holding to quality and performance) :)

Glock accessories and aftermarket parts are more readily accessible. That said, you don't really need to buy parts and accessories anyway.

To me, it comes down to trigger.
Although I own a glock 17, I still prefer an XD.
1. XD's trigger is the best (for me). It works more like 1911. I shoot scarily accurate with XD than the Glock or M&P.
2. Glock's used holster and magazines are more readily available and cheaper.
3. M&P are more preferred by smaller size hand. They can wrap around it better.

XD - best trigger of the 3, ambi mag release, good ergo's

Glock - most available aftermarket parts/access.

M&P - even better ergo's

You won't "go wrong" with any of them, pick which one you prefer and go shootin' !

had a sig grip was a little big for my hand but quality is there. tried glock and m&p didnt have the pleasure to try a XD. in the end I own 2 m&p's one in 9 and one in 40 also own a CZ85 in 9 (one to try great has balance). just curious what you have against used? my suggestion what ever you shoot with the best is what you buy so go try as many as possible.

XDM has a great trigger even better than the XD model. No Aftermarket product's needed as it comes with a match barrel and total trick out set-up. Plus there is rails for you tacticool guy's. Also just like the M&P it comes with removable back straps to get a better grip but it also uses the same contours of a 1911. Also the serations on the handgun make it so easy to use. But don't take my word for it...
Try it. I had a demo shoot on Saturday for everyone @ Poco Range in the lowermainland & not one negitive feed back. If you live in the lowermainland drop me a PM and I'll let you give it a try.
