I've been looking around for a new 9mm pistol to start some action shooting. What price would I be looking at for a new Glock 17 with the night sights on it? Also, is the compensated barrel a good idea, or should I avoid that when using the night sights? I currently have a 92FS, but I like the idea of a lighter pistol. Let me know your thoughts about the different options, thanks in advance.

I would go with regular glock sights and change them out to a trueglo TFO type that has both tritium and fibre optic - great in conditions of strong and low light.
I'd also recommend against a compensated model if you are looking at competing in either IDPA or IPSC- IDPA forbids comp'd models, and in IPSC you'd be at a severe disadvantage by being placed in Open Division.

I personally hate the nite sights on the glock...I'd opt for heine sights...you could also consider fiber iptic on the front. The night sights are an overall bad choice...unless you plan on shooting in the dark  Too wide and no advantage during normal lighting conditions...

Anything beyond that is totally dependent on what type of action shooting you intend to pursue...

If you have any interest in IPSC...feel free to send me a PM

I completely agree with Quigley on this one. On all of the Glock's I've ever had the first thing I do is put on Heinie sights. They're fast to pick up and my tired old eyes can actually see them!
I've tried the fibre optic front sight on my Sig and I liked it also.

That's why they're called night sights, the advantage is during low light/no light conditions. The size of factory night sights is no different than stock sights. The size of the sights has zero effect on accuracy. Its the shooter not the gear that makes the hits.

Tru-glo TFO's are awesome. I have them on all my Glocks. As for the "C" models, if you do get one you can always buy a non-ported barrel and then you can shoot in Standard or Open with a quick barrel change. Although with a 9mm you might not notice much difference between ported and non-ported. Not enough pressure. Now 10mm...yeah, there's a difference!

Corey3, just do it yourself. Dead easy. I bought them from glockparts.com. Fast shipping and they have tons of stuff for Glocks.

Hey, another excuse to put up pics of my G20C:dancingbanana:

...the stock sites suck...too wide. The size of the sites (for me) effects how fast I can pick up the target. He's going to use it for action style shooting. Nite sights would be useless...

But thanks for the insight

That's funny, I run a set of XS big dots on my Glock 26 and have no issues hitting bowling pins at 25. I guess that HUGE golf ball front sight must be to blame. On a side note, are there not any low light stages in "action style shooting"?
