That's an interesting statement. At a course today, my G17 ended up being used by shooter who started out with a Norinco Tokarev. The malfunctions were cutting into his training time so he used my spare. He'll be ordering one right up.

I am considering buying a stock G17 to compete in Production other then Standard and Open in IPSC w/G34.

I clean mine once a year if they need it or not, otherwise it is just a wipe off with an oily rag ;)

4 glocks and counting, this is what I currently own, but in my time I have owned every model/caliber that is legal in canada

- G17 Gen 3.5
- G17 Gen 2 (Desert Storm Model)
- G26 Gen 3.5
- G34 Gen 3.5

All have run perfectly and the only thing I do is swap out the recoil spring every 5000 rounds and I had a G17 get a chipped extractor after approx 30,000 (+/- 5k). took me 1 minute to swap extractor, and its a $10 part.... nice being able to fix ANYTHING on your gun for cheap.

I do replace all the front sights on my guns with the metal site that secures with hex head bolt, from trijicon but is not a tritium one, just plain white dot.

you can still purchase compact and sub compact glocks with extended barrels...

for legal reasons....although im SURE you already knew that! :D
 
My only misgiving over my Glock 17... I sold it! :(
This will be a gun I replace. I've never suffered over sellers remorse like I have over this one.
Enjoy yours. They are accurate, reliable and just plain fun to shoot.
What more could you ask for?

I love mine, its very very easy to aquire a target quickly. I suppose thats because all of my other sights are so crappy heh.. norinco 1911 stock sights and tokarev stock sights...
 
I know what was being said about the tok, I've got one, and I'm super happy with it. It's the jeep ( I mean the original general purpose vehicle, not these chrysler things we see now) of the handgun world. Keep in mind, the jeep had no comforts, and mastered no particular task. Generally exellent though. Having said that, my glock 17 will be in my hands as soon as my transfer clears. Three weeks and waiting... maybe tue/wed?:dancingbanana:
 
ps- I think most tok malfunctions are: 1 - using softnosed/hollow point ammo that doesn't slide up the "ramp" and chamber properly. I believe it was designed with fmj military ammo in mind, so no shocker. My lee enfield jungle carbine does the same thing, and I'll be damned if I'll listen to anyone "dis" that fine bit of gear.
2 - using underpowered (typically reloaded light) ammo. They all seem really stiff when new, and require a little more "kick" to "blowback" properly til broken in.

Then again, what do I know (or trust) other than my own experience.

Tok is a gun you show to your enemy not your friends, for friends show them your Glock 17 which is pretty, accurate and plastic.

It is a mucho jeep, doesn't take Japenese parts.

Last pistol was a Glock, next one will be a Glock. They work, no one can deny that. May not be pretty, but the only that matters is it work. Glock 17 or 19, the latter being my favourite.

For all the 'toy/not good/big/effective enough' comments about Glocks (especially 9mm) I've never had someone spouting off about it willing to stick one to their head and pull the trigger. Maybe theres a doubt about their effectivenss in the nay-sayers after all.
 
Reliable, accurate, parts readily available, easy to service and they just keep working. The only mod I've done to my G17 is a 3.5 lb disconnector and, to be honest, I really didn't mind the factory 5.0 lb disconnector. Say/think what you will about Glocks the G17 is my Doomsday handgun......:D
 
Get a LWD conventional barrel for your Glock.

Put a Lone Wolf Dist. lands and grooves barrel in your Glock and you can shoot all the lead you want.
If you like the G17, you will really like the Glock 34. I see some guys above me have them. Excellent.
If you like the G22 [which I don't] you will really like the G35. I would buy a G35 over the G22 anyday.
Just buy a damn Glock.

You can change the sight if you want to, but DO NOT change any internal part of this technological masterpiece, it's accurate and reliable staight out of the box. in two years i have shoot 2000+ round with mine and still no malfonction. enjoy your new toy and be safe.
