Hey Glock fans, I just picked up a G19TB Gen3 (from the recent batch) and it seems that the slide is not tenifer but parkerized :( I thought that all Glocks were tenifer.
I don't think that I like that finish...

Tenifer is not a finish. It's a metal treatment. It is a clear, metal impregnation process that hardens the steel. Byproduct of the hot bath immersion is cyanide. You can wear out the finish and it's still going to be there. Glock finish changed over the years many times. Actually the light grey finish is much grippier than the previous - teflon like. I much prefer the current one over the old, slippery and shiny one. Now, none of the current USA produced Glocks has Tenifer. This process was banned a while ago. Glock recently changed to a very similar, but lawful process...and I believe it's called Melonite.

Glock no longer uses Tenifer, and that hard non stick skillet slick finish that never wears down. Quite a shame as the newer Glocks are having rust and wear issues unlike the older ones.

This is what may happen to your older Glock if you won't take a proper care. Very same applies to the newer models.

I noticed the finish difference recently when I purchased I Gen3. It adds some character to the Glock, although I think I prefer the Gen4 barrel finish.
When it comes to the slide, I definitely prefer the Gen3 finish, I find the Gen4 to scratch very easy and wears off. My go to gen4 has 1K through and shows holster wear, scratches a lot more. Anyway, I like it too though, specially when I score all down 0s. lol

Man WTF happened to that glock?
really they arent that hard to take care of, a little frog lube, wipe down and scrub out the barrel after each use then re lube... good to go.

whats the round count on that?
under 80k ill be shocked.

Carried IWB by the guy that sweats a lot. That's the whole story. Genetics vs perfection.

the rust on the slide from worn areas/next to the sight from being covered in sweat, sure i get that...you cant make metal completely rust proof.
but man that barrel, it looks like you took a grinder to it.

he did not only rust his gun but also the holster, holster bolts, nuts, everything. Very weird.

...I have a few ideas but I will get flamed....

Idea is very simple. If you don't take care of your firearms it will rust. Old Glock or new one, doesn't matter. Fail to maintain your firearm has always the same consequences.

The finish on the 19TB is gripper that old gen 3 but seem less resistant to scratch than the Teflon looking finish.

I think that I prefer the Teflon (older) finish but the steel is still tenifier processed. The slide is made in Austria and the guns are assembled in USA from what I read on the net.

My 19 tb says made in Austria on frame and slide. Why would they assemble them in US? Proof marked and test fired by a very teutonic sounding name too.

Not that I really care as I dont subscribe to the "austrian ones are mo betta" crowd. All my Glocks are good. :)

Yeah, this is essentially what Glock told me when I inquired as to the finish difference between Gen 3 and Gen 4. Personally, I prefer the look of the older Glocks. The finish on the older ones seemed to be as impervious to damage as Superman's skin.
