Debating whether to send slide for a rmr cut or just get Leupold's Micro red dot sight. Plinking only, no competitions. I have a Holosun 407 on a rifle I occasionally shoot that could be used for the cause. Thoughts?

I have a G19 with a red (green) dot. Seems to work pretty well.

An optic is a pretty spendy accessory for just plinking.

That Leupold dot doesn't require any mods to the gun. I bet milling the slide will cost as much as the Leupold sight.

Mill it! Dots are awesome. RMR pattern is probably the most popular and future-proof pattern.

Or if you wanna keep it stock maybe buy a milled aftermarket slide?

Plinking only, I’d just get a set of good fibre optic sights. If all you currently have is the factory irons, f/o sights are a huge step up. I have a set of Trijicon f/o’s on a glock, blacked out rear, f/o front and I’d be hard pressed to want a slide cut for a sight but that’s just me.

Sounds like you're on the fence - Don't mill unless you're really keen.

What gen is your G19? My preferred solution would be to buy a complete G19 MOS through Prophet River or IRUNGUNS. They'll import everything but the frame for you. Then you'll have an MOS upper as well as all the lower parts for spares.

Yeah on the fence. It's a gen 3

Before I would mill that one, try someone else's pistol with a dot sight on it. If you are still interested, I would look into another slide that comes with the cuts already IMHO.

If it was me, I would go that route.

I had red dots on my AR's (remember those?) and loved them but I can't get used to them on a pistol, maybe just my older messed up eyes.

+1
I own 2 aftermarket Glock slides that are cut for RMR, I keep the stock slides stock and just swap them out if I want to shoot with an optic

Anyone try a rmr rear dovetail mount? Optic would sit a little high, might be ok.
Yes have that on my Glock 17 G5 and seems to work and sits flat on the slide. It is a good idea to see if you really want to run an optic vrs alternative like decent fibre optic sights etc. I like the red dot so will prob be looking for and MOS slide but the dovetail mount works great and it was less than $25 off amazon.

Awesome, I’ll go that route, thanks:)

I just looked up options for a Beretta M9. A dovetail mount will run $166 locally. Blackbox customs lists a milled in RMR cut for $170. That seems like a no-brainer. Maintain the iron sights, get a lower optic mount all for the exact same price.

Just get a aftermarket slide. Easy to swap and there a quite a few affordable options.
Not being argumentative, but all of the aftermarket MOS Glock slides I have seen are in the hundreds. Do you have any links to sites with reasonable price MOS slides. I think if I could find a reasonable priced and "available to a Canadian" source for a MOS slide that would prob be the way i would go.

Brownells has naked optic cut slides for $200 USD. Sometimes less, however by the time it gets here.....lube up.
