I'm looking for a small 9mm and I've narrowed it down to a Gen 3 G19 with the factory threaded barrel and the S&W M&P. I've shot the Glock, not the S&W. What do you guys think are the pros and cons of each gun? If you could carry, which one would you choose?

I went M&P because I am left handed. I'm holding out on a Glock until the Gen 5 surfaces with ambi features. If that doesn't matter to you, just buy the Glock. I think they are objectively better guns.

If you're comparing the 2 at factory specs, the Glock 19 comes out far on top for me. Glock mags are plentiful (and loading 10 rounds isn't a horrible pain like the M&P), the stock Glock trigger is miles ahead, grip texture is better on the glock. I think the only thing the stock M&P has over the glock is better factory sights.

If you're considering all aftermarket possibilities, the M&P starts to close the gap a bit but the glock is still a far better gun in my opinion.

I think M&P 2.0 is superior in grip, trigger is similar, I like the ergos on M&P better. Vs 1.0 the G19 is better
I have 3 M&Ps (fullsize 1.0&2.0, 1 compact) and 3 Glocks 17,19,26.

That said I still really like the G19, it'll be personal preference and budget.. the G19 is more expensive

A used M&P 1.0 will run you $500 on the EE if you keep your eyes open for a deal, and often can include the apex trigger upgrade. A Glock 19 will either fit your hand or it won't, whereas the M&P has interchangeable back straps (unless you go with a gen 4 Glock). I'd say generally speaking a M&P is more gun for your money and has more universal ergonomics but all that said I sold both of mine but still have a G19.

A Canadian legal M&P is more comparable to a G17 unless you can find a Shield with the Pinocchio barrel.
If you want to or can CCW, of your two choices, the G19 will be my choice, hands down. Only upgrade it really needs are good hi viz sights.

Given the current pricing I'd probably choose an M&P 2.0. They're very similar handguns. The 2.0's sights, grip texture, and grip ergonomics are better but the tactile reset on the Glock trigger is more pronounced.

I own both (34, 17, 2.0) and I would probably select the 2.0 if I was buying today.

P.S. I know you've narrowed it down to the Glock and M&P but if I could recommend any handgun it would be the Ruger 9E/SR9.

I shot both, liked the M&P, it's a very nice gun, but the Glock just fits my hand so well, and I can get such a high grip on it that it feels more controlled for me,,,, I obviously bought the G19 :)
That being said, I sure like the look of the M&P 2.0, it all comes down to how the gun feels for you I guess, good luck deciding!

Both are excellent pistols but for the price and ergonomics I would go with the M&P Ver 2. It is so much improved over the Glock. Better sights, better ergoes and a better trigger. Both guns can be improved upon and customized but out of the box they both will work.

If I were you I would also take a look at the new SIG 320. I shot one a couple of weeks ago and it has a lot going for it and would be my choice over wither the Glock 19 or the M&P frankly. Better trigger than either of the other two, excellent sights and ergonomics and dependable as tomorrows sunrise.

I would have one but the Beretta M9A1 Compact is next on my bucket list to be used in CCP Division - after installing a single lever safety. Then comes the 320.

Take Care

Bob

G19 gen 4 is on top of the game... 4.5 pounds trigger, adjustable night sights... JP.

I enjoy shooting both but I ended up getting the M&P. As mentioned before with the Apex trigger upgrade it's really nice. I like glocks and I find them easy to shoot well, but at the same time it sort of feels like holding a 2x4.

What's the point of G19's with a G17 barrel? Pointless!
The ease of buying a new M&P 2.0 range kit is heads & tails above the G19.
G19's are prohibited class firearms. The 2.0 M&P has many advantages, price being #1. Plus the M&P fires lead, the G19 has lead unfriendly polygonal rifling.

Buy the 2.0 M&P, install the Apex trigger & better Apex barrel and enjoy...
