I jut got my first Glock, model 17. It is new. What is the diff or how can you tell what generation or will mags interchange? I would like to try IDPA shooting with it. Frontier has mags for a 9mm Glock but nothing about model. Will they work? Thank you. AGE

Talk to dynamite monkey or search for his ad in the EE, he has all kinds of mags for glocks... All G17 mags are interchangeable regardless of generation.... The only time they don't is if the pistol has ambi mag release, which as far as I know is only on G21SF....

Just make sure they are full size mags, cus short mags for the compacts and sub-compacts will not fit in the G17, but G17 mags will fit in all 9mm Glocks.

Any G17 mags you can find will fit your G17.

There are 5 different generation of Glock pistols.

Gen. 1 have a textured grip but not checkered. They seems to be kind of rare in Kanada or the poeples who have them keep them because i never see any on the used market.

Gen. 2 have a checkered grip. very common.

Gen. 2.5 have checkered finger grooved grip.

Gen. 3 have checkered finger grooved grip and a front acessory rail.

Gen 4 (AKA RTF2) have a rough textured finger grooved grip, acessory rail and curved slide serrations.

There is also a sub category called "SF" for short frame or slim frame, not sure again, available only for the model 21 (not sure). This model is a G21 3rd. gen. with a shorter/slimmer frame ambi mag release and picattiny front rail.
