Hey guys, help me with some input here. I'm looking to eventually get my first pistol, have shot a few (CZ 75B, SIG P250, etc.), and have decided to get a Glock. I've only shot a Glock 17 and enjoy the 9mm but want to check out the larger calibers like the Glock 21 or 22.

I know you can try the Glock 22 at Target Sports' range and was wondering how the recoil of a .40 compares to that of a .45?

little bit harder kick out of the .45 but personally theres something about the g22 that just feels better in my hands. im not sure why but i would take the 22 over the 21

.40 recoil is considered "snappy" and the .45acp's has a "push" if you have the chance to shoot both first, do so. then you make the call.

I was at Target Sports earlier this week and took a friend to shoot for the first time. I'd give them a call and drop by to shoot some .40 and .45 handguns. They also have .223 rifles to shoot as well including an AR. It's all personal preference so I'd say go out and try them and make up your mind for yourself. Everyone will have a different opinion. My favorite Glock is the .357 SIG with compensator. Here's the AR.

They also have a Storm in .40 if you want to try it out.

I'm not a fan of the .40 in a handgun but it was great in the carbine.

About the same

For all intents and purposes, the recoil of a standard 180 grain factory round in 40S&W is about the same factory 45acp 200grain. Having a difference in grain weight of around 20 grains, the similarities between the two cartridges for felt recoil are about equal.
Of course the 40S&W is a much higher pressure round than the 45acp.
Both Glocks are around the same cost. 45acp cases are at least double the cost of forty's though. Cast bullet costs are about the same, plus you'll pay a little more for large pistol primers and you will use a little more powder in the 45acp.

Or get the G20 and a .40cal conversion barrel and get the best of both worlds. 10mm nuclear goodness when you want to have fun at the range, and cheaper .40cal for IPSC.

I've got a G21 SF and absolutely love it. It's a pussy cat to shoot, even with
+ P ammo. Don't own a G22 but have several other guns in .40 S & W. I personally don't find it too snappy at all.

I like a g22 with lighter loads. Factory is snappy fun thought!

Really pay attention to the cost difference because it adds up fast.

.40 is good times imho

Thanks for the input. I just noticed that Target Sports also has a Glock 21SF so I figure I can try both the .45 AND .40. Nice.

Has anyone tried the Glock 21SF? Does it shoot differently from the Glock 21?
