Hey guys,

Anyone have a G21SF?

How do you like it? Did you have a G21 before, and replace it? Do you have them both now? Have you done a side-by-side comparison between the two?

I've heard mixed reviews on whether the difference is actually that substantial. I guess it's about an 1/8th inch reduction in overall circumference around the trigger/backstrap, but also a reduction in the profile of the bottom of the grip/"mainspring" area (to compare it to a 1911).

Pictures?

Thanks,

Brad

I like mine. I ordered mine with a NON ambidextrous magazine release, and the regular Glock rail. :)
If you get the ambi release, or don't know what to do, remember two things...

1.) You cannot use Glock 21 regular mags in an Ambi 21SF...
2.) The right side magazine release part is sharp plastic and may rub your finger raw if you shoot it a lot.

I don't have any pics that I could muster up right now, though, sorry!
I have never shot a regular 21 so I cannot compare it to the 21SF but I have regular sized hands and I have no problems.

I had one and sold it soon after getting it. While it is an improvement over the regular 21, I have small hands and I found the bottom of the grip still too chunky for my liking. Back to the 9mm and .40 Glocks for me. I really like the Glock 36!

Gun shot well and functioned 100%, 21's are usually very accurate.

I have had a 21SF for about eight months now and I have no complaints. I have not shot the previous 21 but this one does have a large grip but it is managable. I have the ambi mag release and from what I can tell my mags are the same as the 21. Hope this is helpful.

I have recently bought a 21 SF, and while I like it alot, it is nowhere near as accurate as my P220 or 1911s...or my G17 for that matter.

I've shot my bros. 21SF. Never a fan of glocks, but I liked this one. Feelt better than my USP .45

I like the ambi mag release too. Why don't all glocks come like that??

I really liked the G21SF when I handled it ... but I just read that it's the least durable and reliable Glock out there - according to Larry Vickers

I love mine, works great. Never tried a regular 21. I've got massive mitts, it fits me fine, I'd probably even be ok with the full size one. Ambi mag release is a bit of a pain, some aftermarket stuff isn't compatible, such as the AA22lr conversions, made before march 2008.

I've heard that the Ambi mag release can exclude you from some G21 holsters, and that the picatinny rail will exclude you from almost all G21 holsters - not to mention the fact that the Ambi guns aren't backwards compatible with the more readily-available G21 magazines.

As such, I'm more interested in the Glock Universal Rail, Non-Ambi guns.

Robstar, can you point me towards Vickers' comments? I have cruised Lightfighter and 10-8 for a while now on this subject (The old non-1911 .45 debate - HK45, USP Tactical, P220, M&P45, XD45, G21), and have read some very interesting things on all of the listed pistols, but I must have missed Vickers' comments, and they certainly do hold some weight with me.

Thanks,

Brad

Brad.

Here ya go. ;)

Gents

I see the old sand test I was part of years ago has stirred up a hornet's nest over on another forum - I tried to post this thread there but found out I was banned - not sure why that would be so I decided to post this here - in addition it answers several questions I get in nearly every class about Glocks- here goes;

1) IMO the Glock 19 and 17 are the best Glock's made - both are excellent pistols - I own, use, and recommend both

2) I do not recommend the G22, G23, or G21 - based on my experience these pistols have problems (breakage, won't function with rail mounted lights, etc.) and I feel there are better choices in 40 and 45

3) Glocks as a rule are not as accurate as many other service pistols - partly due to the enlarged chamber - this can be fixed with aftermarket barrels

4) I recommend 3 things for a Glock 19 or 17; good sights (Heinie, Novak, 10-8and Warren are my current favorites) , a buttplug to keep debris out of the trigger mech (cheap insurance), and my mag catch made by Tangodown. Optional but highly recommended is frame texturing by Dave Bowie (I like the finger grooves removed also)

5) They are incredibly forgiving in maintenance and lubrication - amazing

6) Incredibly simple to operate - 2 levers/buttons and 1 is optional

7) Always remember the golden rule with a Glock; keep your finger OFF the trigger until you are ready to shoot - if you don't adhere to this expect a loud noise at some point

Bottom line Glocks in 9mm are excellent pistols - they are not my first choice in other calibers however - the S&W M&P has been called a product improved Glock ; this may be true but the verdict is still out as the M&P is a relatively new handgun vs millions of Glock's in service (mostly in 9mm I might add) and S&W has a spotty record in terms of autoloading pistols - time will tell

hope this helps

frward,

Take Larry Vickers' opinion or leave it, but he's a very respected 'smith and all around guy. His opinion carries quite a bit of time and experience behind it.

That being said, it's just his opinion. My G22 runs like a champ, and I'm not going to drop it on his command, nor will you I suspect, but it may deter me from a G21 - I'll do more research.

My search for a .45 has brought up the pistols I mentioned before - HK45, USP Tactical, P220, M&P45, XD45, and G21SF.

Of these, the P220 Combat, M&P45, XD45 and G21SF are available in Tan (Glock's OD is tan when in a tan environment, green when in a green environment), but the M&P45's aren't in Tan up here yet.

Of these, the P220 is >$1300, putting it in the same price range as the HK45.

I personally don't like the XD, so that leaves me with the M&P45 and G21SF in direct competition (Bore axis, grip size, capacity [I know, I know], cost of magazines, availability of replacement parts, aftermarket parts [barrels, sights, lights, trigger-pull lightening components], holsters, and, very importantly, COST).

If I can find an M&P45 in Tan, I'll buy it. If not, it's a G21SF.

But again, that's just my opinion.

I own a G21 SF with the ambi mag release and picatinny rail and a Sig P220 Combat. Believe it or not, I find the Glock more accurate than the Sig. The Sig is a beautiful gun but for the price you can't go wrong with the Glock. Here's a few pics for comparison.

I don't find much difference in the muzzle flip. The Sig is an all metal gun so it's a little heavier than the Glock but not by much. It's a single stack .45 so it's a lot slimmer than the Glock. The Glock really soaks up the recoil. I've shot + P ammo through it and you hardly feel it. The Sig is a SA/DA so the trigger pull is a little different than the Glock. Both are very reliable and accurate but the Sig costs much more. For the money I would go with the Glock.
