Glock 22 accuracy problems RESOLVED!!

bought a used g22. looks ok. stock as far as i can tell. at 12yds it looks as a magnified shotgun pattern. can hardly keep it on paper (12x12 ). alot of the bullets are keyholing. i've tried three different brand of ammo all the same. did i get a POS? worn out barrel? rifling looks good.

Off the top of my head, check for leading - if a previous user used lead, and didn't work hard to keep it clean, it will have build up. Glock barrels will build up lead quick. Also Glock barrels dislike a lot of the plated ammo. Other than that - dunno, as a rule - glocks are really robust.
 
What ammo are you shooting? Factory or reloads? If there is lead in the barrel, also pay close attention to lead buildup at the "step" at the front of the chamber, between the chamber and the bore.
 
I doubt this could happen, but look for fractures in the polymer?
Is the barrel an aftermarket one or oem? shouldn't be any wiggle room when in the closed position.
Have you stripped it down and reassembled it in the correct order yet?
Perhaps a pin was put in before a spring, or vice versa, and even though the glock may function, it could screw with the accuracy.

oh yeah, and as others have said, check for bore fouling.
 
I'd first be suspect of the ammo... aren't keyholes cause by incorrect barrel twist for the bullet weight?

My G22 when I had it shot quite well with American Eagle stuff... 180gr
I could put a hand sized group at 50m sitting of course with sandbags.

Just thought... are the sights the plastic ones?
I have noticed on some Glocks under recoil the sights will shift every couples shots (left, then right, then left, etc.) :D

i have never shot a 22 before, only the 17 and thried the gap one for a couple of shots

they are the metal sights

oem barrel, everything is together right. check with a on-line scematic

i'll soak the barrel overnight and scub it clean. i'll try some AE ammo and other brands and see if it is any different.

if all else fails, what should i sell it for? :)
 
My solution to a Glock problem ..... Stand with your right foot (if you are right handed) slightly behind the left foot, about 16" apart, keep elbows high and head level, then throw the whole damn thing in the river.
 
Powerwagon, I believe MD Charlton is now the authorized repair dealer for Glock. Seeing as they are just over in Saanichton, across the water, why not either give them a call or drop them an email:redface: . I have had that problem before but never with factory ammo. It has been attributed to either undercharged loads or undersized bullets. Very strange indeed in your case. Their site is mdcharlton.ca.
Dont give up as its gotta be something simple...hopefully:confused:

If all else fails, get a KKM or Jarvis barrel for it...(Unless you are an IPSC shooter) I love my KKM on my G22.
 
Mabee its not the gun???........no offense. If your totally unhappy, just sell it, or use it one a trade-in and grab something you want.

I'd give it an excellent cleaning and lube it up nice....if you cant get tight groupings from at least 25 yards standing up, you've got a problem. Either its you, or the gun is f*ck'd and I'd get ride of it ASAP.

well i'm really hoping it is not me. i don't have trouble at least hitting paper with any gun, just this one. i cleaned it a bunch tonite. lots of patches till she ran clean. i'll get some ammo tomorrow and try it out this sunday.
 
My money is on the shooter or ammo. Possibly previous owner. Glocks cannot to my knowledge be assembled wrong. Even from complete disassembly. Only slide, barrel and lock block play crucial roles in overall lock up. Oh, and recoil spring obviously. Seeing as how the gun seems to function fine and with the current reputation of Glocks. I'd say the problem is either ammo, shooter, or previous owner, such as leading. As for ammo, nothing you buy commercially will not stabilize causing key holing. Try bench resting the pistol after a good clean and eliminating the possibility of a leading issue.

I didn't want to sound like a ####... but I too was going to suggest the shooter as a possibility ;)

I remember going up to the range and a guy had a G22 next to me complaining about how crappy it was. I asked to shoot it (he had a target 10 yards out) I put all of them in a tight group near the bullseye... he laughed and said "You fixed it!"

Glocks definitely take some getting used to... for some reason they don't shoot right the first time for anyone who hasn't had much experience with them. Myself included... I hastily sold my first G17 cause I thought it was inaccurate but then realized it was me when I bought another 9mm and was shooting the same :D (expensive lesson learned)

I had a dry firing ritual for a good couple weeks before bed which helped alot.
 
Are you using West Coast Bullets?
I had a G34 keyholing and very erratic, it was absolutely ammazing how large the group was at 30yds. (about 6 feet) using these West Coast Bullets.
I think they went out of business.
