GLOCK 22 GEN 4 or S&W MP 40

Which one should I get for my first gun?

It will be my first hand gun. I'm considering one of them. Which one would you get based on the reliability, ease of use, and ease of maintenance?

On the side note, should I get the 9mm or 40 cal handgun? This wouldn't be my first time shooting though.

The glock is the AK-47 of hand guns. The S&W has the worst reviews out of any hand gun I have ever read about. I have shot both and the glock is just a better gun. Tons of aftermarket parts for the glock as well.

9mm ammo is cheeper then 40 if that helps.
 
I own booth and I would say the Glock, by a slim but well defined margin, unless you are one of the few that does not like the Glock grip. If this is your first handgun and you are new to shooting I would say 9mm… well actually I would say .22LR but you don’t want to hear that do you.

that's complete bull####... its all personal preference

I have shot both as well and they are both reliable and with a low bore axis shoot about the same... I however prefer the S&W as atleast its not ugly as sin

As for ammo, 9 is cheaper (by about 40-50 bucks per 1000) so you might be able to shoot more...
 
I like both but I bought a glock 22, for some reason I just shoot better with a glock than any other gun I've tried, that said there are lots I haven't tried.

I knew I was going to catch some flack for this!! To tell you the truth I don't like either of them, the grip on the glock is awful and the S&W is so poorly manufactured it feels like its going to fall apart... Buy a sig226 or a beretta M9 if you want a good gun, the US military has used them for years with no problems. I can shoot both of those all day long and have with no problems. It's a bit more money but worth it in the end.
 
Both are great. Get the one that feels the best and looks the best to you. That is what matters.

I have so many glocks, I'm leaning towards getting something different. so get a M&P

I have the G22 Gen 4. But, for a first handgun I would recommend the G17 in 9mm. Mainly because it has less recoil and cheaper to shoot than the .40 S&W.

Yes I have a p226 navy with a surefire x400 I just bought. Best 9mm I have ever owned, and I've had the glock and the S&W. The beretta was really nice as well, and I've had both the 92fs and the M9. The barrel on the M9 was a little better made, other wise both are great. Maybe the M&P I got was something that slipped past quality control, but it was so bad I will never buy another S&W product again.
 
I got both and I prefer the glock triger reset better than the m&p
the m&p is a bit slimer and shorter... it's go on... buy both
9mm is cheaper but 40 is good too.. get a glock 22 and a m&p in 9mm
enjoy them
 
I've shot both, and the M&P is just the more attractive gun to fire and own. It's all about personal preference, Glock has that reliability but there is nothing to complain about with the M&P either.

They will shoot well, that's where your practice will come in, but it comes down to preference. Try holding each one, see what fits your hand, sight picture that's more comfortable, recoil, and etc etc.

As for caliber I'd recommend 9mm, cheap, effective. Another thing to look into is any .22 conversion kits or .22 versions of the firearm for even cheaper practice.
