GLOCK 22 GEN 4 or S&W MP 40
It will be my first hand gun. I'm considering one of them. Which one would you get based on the reliability, ease of use, and ease of maintenance? On the side note, should I get the 9mm or 40 cal handgun? This wouldn't be my first time shooting though.
Do you want an external thumb safety?
Do you want an internal lock?
Do you want a magazine disconnector?

Answer those questions, and your choice will be easier.

I own a M&P .40, had a M&P 9 and have a M&P .45 on the way. Have also shot many Glocks in all calibers. Other than grips there is not much difference between them. They both do what they were meant to and do it very well. I love the Glocks and will get a couple one day but the M&P's are just as good. Handle both and choose based on that.

like the m&p... and like the glock, very similar designs... market for the glock is so much bigger...easier to get mags, easier to get spare stock and aftermarket parts... tonnes of sights... hardly anything out there for the m&P... there are millions of glocks sold.... thats why im getting a new glock again... selection of calibers and frame sizes is absolutely outstanding... the M&P is just trying to copy it... my personal choice for work would b a glock 22, but unfortunately im stuck with an M&P 40... ah well... could have been stuck with a beretta or a sig 229 with a 59 lb double action trigger lol

Which one is better for smaller frame hands? I noticed on the website that M&P 40 has large frame.
I use small grip on both guns and M&P is smaller, I still prefer the Glocks grip it points very well and makes the gun sit lower in your hand.

The M&P works really well for my hands (small backstrap), that said I was playing with a Gen4 Glock the other day and noticed they've come a long way in accomodating us hand size challenged guys. Might be time for another G19. Incidentally, buy a 9 - the paper won't know the difference but your wallet will - and if you do end up buying a Glock it'll last longer..
