Did a search and nothing jumped out at me. I apologize if I missed it or missed the appropriate forum to post this.

Just so I hone in on a good holster for a Glock 22, can I ask what you guys / gals have that you find works good at the range?

Holsters can be a very subjective choice, what works great for me may not be entirely what you are after. All holsters will hold your gun, but if you can narrow down what you want we'll be able o give you a better recommendation.

Leather or kydex/polymer?
Level 1 or level 2 retention?
Concealment, belt side, drop leg etc?
Purpose? (I.e. Speed competition like USPSA/IPSC? Tactical shooting? Fun at the range? Deployment/employment?)

If you aren't fond of shooting yourself in the thigh or other lower extremeities, don't buy a Blackhawk serpa holster. Not only are the garbage holsters, they're also terribly unsafe.

Thanks FoxAlpha.

I would be fine with a level 2, kydex/polymer, belt side holster. Just for fun at the range for now.

As others have said, if you don't need active retention there's no benefit to having it. I would strongly recommending getting in touch with Tim from SolCan. His product is exceptional and he offers a lot of different options, plus he's a great guy to deal with. Can't recommend him enough.

Thank you. I will take a look at the ‘soleycanadian’ holsters. In the mean time I was given a Glock Sport/Combat holster today. It may be sufficient for my initial needs.

Check eBay for 'safariland safariseven Glock 22' they make a couple really well made affordable models using excellent nylon that won't scratch the finish and have quick release mechanisms.

5.11 thumbdrive is a good one too, and any Galco option if you're into leather. If you like kydex check out solely Canadian or peek around for a used Bravo or Raven Concealment.

One word of advice. Don’t cheap out on holsters. Don’t get the one size fits all (none) ones. The holster is the one equipment on your body that keeps a gun safe other than when you have it in your hands. Would you put your baby in the cheapest generic car seat you can find?

Make sure the holster has a covered trigger guard, allows a good full grip on the draw and has good retention when you move. As Kidd X said, you don’t need Level 2+ for normal range use. A solid Level One will do perfectly.

And as everyone has said, in Canada, get SolelyCanadian! Avoid Fobus, any generic nylon styles and Blackhawk Serpa.

I bought a fobus off amazon.ca for dirt cheap like $10 cheap and I think it's great for what I use it for. My Ruger 22/45 also fits in it nicely so I am twice as happy with it.

Comp Tac makes excellent Kydex holsters, bought a used one here on the EE, fits all my Glocks. I like it better than the Blade Tech it replaced and there is nothing wrong with Blade Tech.

And get a proper gun belt!

Yup! Definitely get a proper gun belt! And make sure your holster loops are fitted to your belt.

Just to build on Still Alive's post. I personally use my gun belts for everyday wear as well. No sense in buying a belt just for the range, unless you're building a battle belt/war belt. If all you need to hang is a holster and a couple pouches then a good quality leather or synthetic gun belt is the ticket! I've settled on 1.5" as opposed to 1.75" for the simple reason that most pants are sized for at least a 1.5" belt. Something to think about.

Exactly what I do. I have a black dress gun belt for work. Looks exactly like any dress belt. And a Instructor belt for casual wear. Both in 1.5” also. Another reason for this is like having a EDC knife. A proper gun belt is so much sturdier and can be applied in certain “ emergencies “.
