On fence on what my next pistol purchase will be. Budget is about $600-$650. Not sure if I want to get a Glock 22, or a Tokarev and a GSG 1911. I know I will end up buying both at the end of the day, but unsure which way I want to go first. I already have a M&P 9mm as my first, and I really like the way it shoots, just not sure what's next. I also noticed Gen 3's are typically cheaper on EE vs gen 4's. Anyone recommend NOT buying a Gen 3? Anyone recommend NOT buying a GSG? I know a Tokarev is a Tokarev, loud military surplus pistol. But I love the idea of older mil surp. Any feedback would be great.

Why are you set on 40sw? If it isn't for competition reasons I would skip the 22 and get a 17 or 34. 3rd Gen or 4th is fine, try to handle them first. I found 4th Gen to be significantly more comfortable. Slightly more aftermarket support with the 3rd Gen.

GSGs are garbage. Ruger MKIII or the new IV, Smith and Wesson Victory, or the Buckmark are all much better pistols.

really?, my GSG has been great so far, by far one of my favourite pistols in my collection so far, the buckmark i owned for 2 months how ever was complete and utter garbage, ended up returning it to cabelas in the end, wouldnt fire anything and accuracy was pathetic, couldnt group anything at 10 yards

the Tokarev and gsg would be good for budget plinking , i have both , still not even half way through my first crate of 7.62x25 lol
40SW, well, that crap gets pricey at least around where i am, id get the surplus now while prices are still down, can only imagine how much higher they will be going in the future

I have a Glock 22 currently in the mail. I ordered it because basically you can get 3 calibres out of it. .40S&W, 9mm with a drop in conversion barrel, and a .22LR conversion kit slide.

The 40 cal outside of IPSC Standard Division and Provincial/Municipal Police Dept. is a bit of a red headed child. 40 cal guns sit on the shelves while 9MM guns are the popular kid on th e block. Caliber conversions sound neat but from my personal experience really don't offer much. The most reliable .22 conversion kit is by far and away the CZ Kit. Most of the others seem to be pretty specific on the ammo they will function with. In saying that, I am sure there are exceptions. I just have not run into many.

For what you have to spend you should be able to pick up a gently used 75B CZ in 9MM. That gun with a 13# mainspring installed will shoot better than most who own them, gets you into an all steel gun that will last you a lifetime. In the future you can add the .22 kit and you will have, what I consider one of the best combinations money can buy only surpassed perhaps by the Ruger Flattop Convertible in 45acp.45Colt.

Start reloading and you will either shoot a lot more or save money by reloading. I would definitely skip on the 40 Cal unless you really have a specific use for that caliber.

Take Care

Bob
