My Glock 19 gen 4 transfer came through and I picked it up on Monday.

Getting ready to go to the range tomorrow and discovered that it has 2x 9mm mags and 1x .40 mag in the case.

Before I ask the dealer if they can do anything, is there any use for one in Canada? I don’t think there are many Glock 23s here (some conversions maybe)?

I know some guns mags are the same for 9mm and .40, but not sure if glock works they way as well.

No problem, the 40 cal mag will function with 9mm rounds in it. The bonus is you can probably fit 13 rounds of 9mm in the .40 mag if you so choose. There are many G23’s in Canada, I have no doubt if it bothered you enough you could easily trade someone ( including me lol) for a stock 9mm mag :)

The retailer should have no problem sorting you out, but it may take some time if they don't happen to have G19 mags on hand (they're are a little less common).

There are definitely G23 pistols in Canada. The G23 mags can also be used in the G27 (compact) pistol, of course. And they can be used in most glock-mag-compatible pistol caliber carbines chambered in 40 S&W. Finally, some people have chopped the grips on their G22 pistols to the G23 length.

Reliability will be compromised if using the G23 magazine in your G19.

Thanks guys!

I may take you up on that trade edgy - thanks for the offer! Will send you a PM in a bit.

I had no idea there were many G23 or G27s (or conversions) in Canada. Nice!

Is the frame the same on a G19 to a G23, that you just need a new slide to convert?

The only issue with 9mm's in a .40 mag is occasionally you might get mis-feeds due to the slightly larger area in the feed end. Having had both a G23 and a G19.

Personally, I'd get the proper 9mm mag for it if the dealer will do it. Or trade it on the EE for a 9mm mag.

NAA.

No experience with 9mm in .40 mags with glocks but I bought a .40 m&p mag to test how reliably 9mm would feed out of one in my S&W. It worked but not 100%, so I ended up selling it on the ee. It held 12 or 13 rounds of 9mm.

I have both a 23 and a 19. The 23 mag is not a good mag in a 19. Get the real deal. OR - Buy a 40 S&W barrel for your 19, and then you have a choice of calibers. A barrel is all you need.

The 23 feedlips are very wide; I would not choose to use a 23 magazine for 9mm (although you can do whatever you want).

The 19 slide will not accomodate a .40 barrel; if you want to make your 19 capable of using .40, you'll need - in addition to your (.40) magazine - a (.40) slide, a (.40) barrel, and an (.40) ejector.

That is interesting. I converted my 22 and a 23 to 9mm with just a barrel swap. I assumed it could go the other way....

It's interesting to think about: What's required to swap in order to "make it work", versus what's required to swap in order to "make it work as reliably as a Glock should be".

FWIW, I think Wendell forgot to add the extractor, as well, for the full list.

Today I heard a story about a guy who just cracked his (polymer) frame. In the old days, such a thing would be no big deal. Nowadays... V:I:

Yes the frame is the same, you don’t even need a new slide, there are 40-9mm conversion barrels. You could also just swap to a 9mm upper. I’ve run my g22 with a 9mm conversion barrel for years and 5000+ rounds without issue. I did not change anything else and it has worked as reliably as it should.
