So... my friend Dustin tells me that Canadians cannot own the Glock 36. What a shame! :( It's a nice, medium sized .45 semi-auto. Very nice for personal protection, or even for carrying when hiking or fishing. It can get wet too! :p

Maybe I am missing something, but can't those of us "blessed" with 12(6) status buy them? If not, Why?

Thanks,

Ben

Ben,
If there was a grandfathered one in the country, yes you could.

I don't believe this model Glock was in production when the 12(6) came into effect, so it's not likely there's a grandfathered one in country. I could be wrong on the production date though.

Otherwise, we're stuck with the >106mm re-barrel option, like Questar does with the G26/27's, etc.

If you current have the grandfathered status you can buy one. You can always have your retailer bring one in, but the wait would probably be long. Best bet is to have Questar bring them in for you, this is what they do best. I think Slavex on the board is grandfathered and recently had a prohib Beretta brought in by Questar.

Most of us, as mentioned do not and will not get the status to own this pistol. Not only that our laws prohibits us from carry a pistol or hunt with one.

WRONG, nothing prohibited can be imported into the country, UNLESS it is for law enforcement, gov't or military. Thus excluding anyone with a PAL with any 12 sub whatever. All prohibited firearms that are owned by and individual must be Grandfathered (I don't believe any g-36's are)or like in the 12(6) fiasco granted an amnesty or court date.....:(

That's incorrect. 12(6) pistols can not be imported and sold as is. They must be made "restricted" before sale to a private individual.

Slavex's Beretta had a greater than 105mm barrel installed to make it restricted.

That is correct. In addition to no more imports, no more 12(6) firearms can be "created" by cutting down an existing firearm. If they are not already in the system, they never will be.

yup my (.45ACP!) Cougar had a longer barrel than standard ones, it was still a factory barrel though.

Yikes!

What a sad state of affairs! :(

When I'm out fishing, I'd far rather have a pistol on my hip (no matter how underpowered) than a rifle on a riverbank between me and the bear!!!

But no worries. We have ridiculous gun laws in the US as well. In fact, even though the right to keep and bear arms is guaranteed by our Constitution, there are still laws that prohibit the carrying of firearms in our national parks, Denali National Park being one of them! Astounding!
